Hey guys, I need to drive my car to the shop about 15min away. But I don't have an o2 sensor on the turbow elbow becuse the elbow broke. Will it be o.k for the short drive? I drove it around the parking lot and it seemed to run o.k?
p.s it has an sr in it.

Yes it will be fine, it will run poorly and you will get bad mpg, but it wont harm anything.

Hey I just went out side to pull the 02 out of the broken elbow and I noticed that when I shake the sensor it rattles in side? I'm not 100% sure but dose this mean it is shot?

O2 sensors dont really have mechanical parts to them, its just a plug with a wire inside, but it shouldn't rattle either. I would consider replacing it.

That usually means the Ceramic support broke and the sensor is shot.

o2 sensor is only used to lean the fuel map at cruising speed, your car will not run poorly without one, you will get decreased mileage a little. i havent had one for like 3 years, it dosent matter

Actually, if you look at a fuel map and see where the closed loop operation is, you'll see that in most situations of low and medium load make the car operate in closed loop, which is when the car uses the o2 sensor.

hmm...never knew that. So if you had fuel management, an o2 sensor really wouldnt matter? Emissions?

Start car -> open loop (runs rich) until car reaches proper operating temperature
Close Loop - O2 monitors exhaust gas sending signal to ECU to lean and enrich mixture so as to stay at target air/fuel mixture.
No O2 - car assumes worse (safety first) -> open loop -> car runs rich all the time -> nice sooty exhaust tip and poping sounds on decel and bad mileage.

just pick unp a universal o2 sensor and splice it in. i doubt you would need anything more accurate then the narrowband ones.

i know this thread is way past being dead, but lemme ask you guys a question...do any of you guys throw CEL when its unplugged....i remember the car ran shitty for a long time, once i unplugged the o2 it ran mint....then i obviously replaced it....while it was unplugged, it didn't throw any codes....as a matter of fact, no CEL...and the bulb is good
