Well lately I've been experiencing this real wierd thumb comming from my rear on my s14. Whenever I release the clutch ( slow or fast ) I feel a huge Thump, as if I got hit in the rear or something?

I checked underneath the car today at work, and I cant notice anything suspicous, on why it would make that hard thump.

I had the car up on the lift, and had my friend put the car in gear. The Diffrential and 6 bolt shafts are fine and spin correctly. also the driveshaft is also fine.

For some strang reason when I went to the back of the car to inspect how the wheels spin, they have at least 1 inch play. Meaning they wobble around 1 inch or so?? I did notice that the Rotor on the brakes also have a bit of play? I tighetened the lugnuts while my friend was pressing the brake, and torque'd them as the car was on the ground.

but i cant find out the problem. Its beginning to get worste. Any possible help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to try to solve this myself, without having to deal with a shop.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Make sure all your suspension parts are tight and good, shocks,or coilovers, sway bar. controll arm's, ect.... Make sure the carrier bering on the drive shaft is good, check tranny mount. Start there, that will atleast narrow it down some. Ive got more, but this will kill anything that wont cost or involve to much time.

Check your differential bushings.

i just helped my friend buy an S14(96') today. on the drive back to his house i noticed the same "thump" also when releasing the clutch. i will check into everything that was listed and get back with results when possible.

I can almost assure you its your subframe. cheap parts labor is expensive. my coworker had the same problem.changed them out to the solid aluminum ones. and presto its all quiet.

Wow you guys are so considerate, especially since this happened almost exactly a year ago, and Anthony has since then moved on and sold the car. I should neg rep newbs that bring back year old tech threads.
