View Full Version : Wierd Fuel problem
Did a search but didn't find any definite answers. Abotu 6 months ago my car was running really really really rich, and cause my car to have a really bad fuel leak. The fumes were everywhere in the car. So i fix the Rich issue and changed my fuel lines. and no more running rich and fuel leak. But.... I have the fuel leak problem again. This time its not your ordinary fuel problem. When i fill up my tank, The top have of the tanks would go down very fast according to the fuel guage. The bottom half would take almost 200 miles to go completely to E. The top half would only last about 100 miles. Whats the deal!!? any help would be appreciated.

What year is your car?? S13 or S14??
S14's were notorious for having fuel gauge sender units that didn't accurately read how much gas was in the tank, (Nissan didn't help matters much either with the shape of the gas tank!!)
Did you pull your fuel pump out of your gas tank lately?? If you did, then you might not have placed the fuel sender unit in properly when you put the fuel pump back into the gas tank. Or it's possible that your fuel sender unit is just old & needs to be replaced. Only way to know for sure is to crack open the ol' FSM & check the resistance on it. If it's reading properly, then it's a possibility that the gauge on the dashboard is screwed up, or you have some sort of resistance on the line that runs from the sender unit in the tank to the dashboard. Good luck trying to figure that one out!!!

hmm, maybe your givin it hell for the first x amount of miles after u fillup. Then, after you notice your gas goin down u drive it like a granny?
How do you drive the car? Daily driver? Drive it fast? Slow?
Could be something electrical. You could drop the tank and look for a leak towards the top?
I take it easy all the time. and recently i just started to drive it like a granny on the top half of the tank but it still goes down faster than the bottom half
