Ok, I'm going to ask a question that has to do with this topic kinda.
If I am going to run the same size tire front and rear, on same sized wheels front and rear, then I wouldn't want to run a more gripping front tire than the rear for slip angle, correct?
So if that's the case, if you ran something like Advan Neova AD07 up front, you would want something that's either as grippy or the same set of tires in the rear as well, correct? Like, you wouldn't do Nevoa AD07 up front and then like FM901s in the rear?

why do u suggest things that are $$?? realistically i wouldnt want to go over the price of rt615's. same grip too.
im looking for realistic suggestions.
hankook also has an analog of falken's rt615. both well under 200+++$.
mind that fm901 for the front would be 105 a piece.

im really really liking st115 up front. but what else i could use comparable to st115s?? what about direzzas'?? anyone has good input?

c'mon, the four tires you mentioned aren't even in the same class
RT-615's are stickier than any of the other 3 by a significant margin, and only a little more expensive. no question you go with those if u can't afford RE01 or AD07

As soon as I can find a good alignment shop in my area I'll be running 245/40/17 AD07 up front and 255/45/17 Kumho MX in the rear. I'm currently running 235/40 & 255/40 451's all around. The 451's were adequate street tires with a decent wear rating. But if wear is less of a concern and you want to stay in that price range get the 615's.

if you're on the east coast, try tire savings, but on the west coast...the shipping is nuts!

+1
I only have about 1k left in my AD07s; I think I'm going to try RE01-Rs next just to see what they're like. Hopefully I won't be hugely disappointed but we'll have to see. The Advans are everything I was looking for and more.
I've never run the same tire on my car twice. This is the only tire I've considered doing so with.
It's hard to swallow spending so much on tires, but when you get that much performance the price becomes a bargain. I figure I get about 6-7 miles for every dollar I spend on the AD07s.

well here is my setup right now...
wheels:
5zigen 17x8 +20
5zigen 17x10 +25
tires:
(F)225 45 17 - azenis rt615
(R)235 45 17 - potenza re730
now, this setup gives me the grip i need int he front. but enough in the rears. i wanted to use sheaper tires in the rear, cause i know i am just practicing right now, and will burn up tires.
since the tires are weaker then the fronts... i went with a slightly larger size. this is with a KA and it was a good setup.
doign sr swap now, and my rear tires are toast! so... this is my next setup...
(F) 225 45 17 - azenis rt615
(R) 245 45 17 - potenza re750
final setup i want in full azenis or full neovas( hahaha, i already have the rears in my back yard!)
(F) 235 40 17
(R) 255 40 17
this setup still gives me alittle understeer. but i can handle understeer. hahaha, i came from a FF car. anyways, it offers me enough grip to fly down the mountain fast, and i can still lock up my tires with my brakes. with the KA i can still break out the rear with a vlsd, i am hoping the 255 will keep my rear end in check! going sideways is kinda scary for me...

well the thing is i dont need the advans now i know they are great i just cant justify spending twice the price of rt615s. yet. just yet. im going to run 615s front i guess at grind 101, i wander how many runs can i get with them hee hee.
actually st115s hold up perfect in the front for the whole event. i was very impressed. mmmm how many runs might i get out of rt615s up front?? running neg 2 camber.
thanks for everyone's input.
and on my spare set of wheels im gonna try run coopers 2xs front federal555 rear 225 both. whatcha think?

I took ST115s to Thunderhill, and they where rad. Great tire, but I still like the Cooper better because:
1. Insane stiff sidewall.
2. Better grip than the ST115s and ES100s
3. Very predictable tires to the end.

mmmmm ill try them eventually. im gonna try out 452's in the front. overall i really like st115 in the front, they lasted me through entire event plus more thread left :)))

Im gonna go with the T1R most likely
The 235/40/17 has the REINF sidewall so its got a 94W load rating which is a good deal.
Reveiws for it are good.

Correct me if I'm wrong but last time I checked oversteer is when the rear tires break loose and understeer is when the front tires break loose.
"front has to be grippy fuck understeer."
How does that work?
SpeedMonkeyInc
07-25-2006, 03:24 PM
Some punctuation would help that sentance.
The front has to be grippy. Fuck understeer.
Translation: He wants a tire for the front that grips well so that understeer is not a problem.

i love the hankook rs2 and it's priced just slightly below the RT615
haven't tried the falken yet myself but maybe somebody has tried both?

from all reports, the rs2 z212 is a terrific tire, just a litle below the RT-615, but also a little cheaper
For me, the price difference was only $10 per tire, so i just went with Falkens...altho i've only heard good things about the Hankooks
good to have quality options

Everything I've seen points to that the people that don't know any better love the hankooks but people who've run on other stuff say they're down on grip from the 615 with an even weaker sidewall

Well, it did have a good showing in Grassroots Motorsports' tire comparo months ago.
Unfortunately i think they've raised prices recently so they aren't nearly the deal they were.
