I'm not familiar enough with SR swaps or turbos in general. Looking for thoughts/advice/what to look for. It's only run stock boost (reportedly). Here's what it's got:

sr20det 60k on motor
exedy single clutch
arc bov,
HKS intake
HT 3" downpipe
test pipe
koyo aluminum radiator
nismo rad. capjoints
Z32 fuel filter
walboro 255lph fuel pump
apexi turbo timer

Any thoughts/pointers appreciated!

this setup is your basic swap and bolt-ons. it sounds like a good car to start with. as for the mileage, you can't trust what people say. cause there's really no telling how many actual miles are on the motor.

Seriously, if you don't wanna answer you don't have to.
I've been all through the faq and searched the archives, so I'm not *totally* unfamiliar w/ SR'd SX's. Still wanted to get perhaps a short list of gotcha's to watch out for before I bust out a wad of 100s to buy a car.

IMO, asking questions is what forums are for. Otherwise, this and other forums would just be a vast repository of info, w/ plenty of bad in with the good!

Thanks anyway...

that sounds like a good start. Its hard to judge a car without pictures, but just look at the swap in general. Does it look thrown together? I would be more concerned about the overall condition of the car, find out which things electrical and mechanical don't work. And think to yourself how much it will cost to replace everything, that is wrong with the car. Body is very important, and rust. I cannot stress that enough.

Heres your checklist when you see the car:

A) Check oil right away, make sure theres no air bubbles or metal bits and the oil isnt a chocolate consitancy (bad headgasket) (LOOK CLOSE)

B) Take off oil cap on valve cover, glance at cams make sure they're not scarred, and nothings black on the inside. Smell the inside of it if you ahve to, if it smells like shit (other than oil) something might be up, or the oil might be real real old.

C) Idle should be 800-1000 rpms, it should not buck or stutter when running.

D) Check for leaks around transmission or crank seal, also feel around turbo for exhaust leaks (this is something you can fix later but the guy may drop price if you do find a problem.

E) Check for smoking or any indication of bad rings.

F) Lastly if you have a compression tester and the time, you can do that, as well as check the spark plugs for antifreeze or oil.

Oh yes i missed out on the big one:

Before A) Listen to the motor, if there is ticking it could be the timing chain or if there is knocking (you will know the difference) then you dont want that thing. Take a long plastic handled screw driver and put the metal end of it to the block and your ear on the handle. (a metal pole will work just as well) listen for knocking.

and check oil pan for dents.
