hey everyone, i got a ticket the other day and I did some reading around on the forums, but i'm still confused on a couple things and i would like some clarification. this is also the first time i will be seeing the state ref for illegal modifications.

first i would like to take care of the 27150 (a) loud exhaust citation.
when it says correctable it means i can swap my exhaust or put in a silencer and get it signed off by an officer, right? (But in my case, i assume I would get the citation cleared along with my next citation below.)

i also got a 27156 (b) modified emissions citation, i also got a non correctable which means i have to see the smog ref. when i talked to the officer, i was also told i needed to make 2 appointments.

anyway, i plan on removing all my bolt ons, but i will be keeping my intake and exhaust in storage and selling my header. i'm borrowing a K&n drop in from a friend and putting back on the stock air box, stock header, and a stock exhaust.

either way, i have no problem swapping out the parts, but i'm mainly confused with the fines.

Will i still have to pay the hefty fines if I correct everything and get a certificate from the ref? or am i stuck with whatever fine they send me even after i make the appropriate changes?

i don't mind if i get flammed or anything, i just want to be sure i know what i'm dealing with. thanks.

Well i know cali is strict but with the loud exhaust, i believe the laws are based on the decibel production one would make. I think the legal limit is 95db and anything above you can be fined, i am not quite sure what the modified emissions is. Did the officer that pulled you over ask you to pop your hood?

If you take your car to a state ref, and it's within compliance, you pay a hefty fee of $10.

modify emission mean that the cop didnt know what they were looking at and they saw a lose or cap up hose. That happen to me before.

For your modify exhaust, Im pretty sure they are making you go to the ref for that one too ( I did ).

I however did not pay any fine. I went to the ref and then went to court and show the judge that my car legal (well after I fixed it). I told him that the cop did not know what he was talking about and that my exhuast was legal. Judge ruled in favor of me because I had the ref sign off on everything.

If you tell the judge you fixed it. Then you pay $10. If you tell the judge that you didnt fix anything and that your car was legal at the time. It call undue burden. But you still had to pay the ref for their time.
