Okay.. i'm sick of making these threads but i am actually really stuck on this one. I went to check out a local car. 1992 midnight blue 240sx. 140k miles, new clutch, new exhaust interior is nice and there is no rust in the spare tire well. There is rust on the driver's side rocker panel, a bit on the framerails (fixable) and some where the firewall meets the wheel-well on the passenger side. that last one is about a square foot in size, and i probably could have put my finger through it. The owner is the 2nd owner and the car has not been driven in the winter since 2001 and he is very anal about maintenance and such.
He was asking 3k with some ROH rims and Yokohama AVS tires, or 2400 with stock wheels with bald tires. I'm really not sure if I should go for it.. I have about 2k in hand right now and I was thinking of offering him 1500-1700 just because of the rust (and it needs new brakes, brake lines possibly).
Here is his cardomain:http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2353087
INFO:
- 5 spd
- 230 xxx km’s
- Cruise control
- Hatchback
- Blue, 'Midnight Blue Pearl' actually
- Complete mechanical history available, I was 2nd owner of car
- Rust on driver’s side rocker, A pillar, and surface rust on rear of car
- Car garaged winters since 2001
- Recent maintenance/replacements:
o Power steering pump & assembly (204 km’s)
o Clutch (206 km’s)
o Cat-back Bosal muffler (211 km’s)
o Front shocks & struts OEM (216 km’s)
o Starter (218 km’s)
o Rust-free tailgate installed and painted, spoiler removed
o Battery (228 km’s)
o Replaced driver’s side seat with better condition, passenger seat from ’89 240sx
- Minor upgrades:
o Alpine deck – 45x4 w
o JBL 4x6 speakers to replace stock front speakers
o Driver & passenger door dynamated
o Prestige alarm & remote power door locks installed
o 4 ROH 15 inch rims wrapped in Yokohama AVS E 100 205/60 R15 H, at (227 km’s)
"Price drop - $3000 for car with ROH rims & Yokohama tires, $2400 for car with stock 7 spokes and Cooper Cobra's
Also the fuel lines have been replaced since my last post."
I realy dont know if i should go through with this and I need professional help :P just because my parents aren't the best advice around for this car and i'm having a though time deciding.
Thanks for your time,
-Matt-

Haha Yea i know... He said he had people comming from like 4-5 hours away to take a look at the car and that they were serious... he told me that it's first come first served and that he'd pretty much take the first offer. I didnt want to embarass myself by offering him 1500 lol. so i said no. i'll wait for the next one.

Good for you man, I don't know how the market is over there but I've never seen a more tore up 240 than that rust wise.

Hahha wanna bet? gimme a few minutes and i'll upload the pics of the one i went to see the day before. This guy wanted 3k as well. just wait for it haha
Yeah, do what you feel is "right." If you feel at all uneasy about buying a particular car just don't buy it. You will be able to make the right descision in the end. Don't rush into anything either. Just wait for something you really want and feel 100% comfortable buying.
Best of luck!

PS. Thanks for the neg rep, but you have no rep power. It does nothing. Just an FYI.
EDIT: Woah! Just looked at the pics. I thought the 240 I sold to my bro had lots of rust. Holy shit! That thing looked in rough shape. Do they use lots of salt there?

What negative rep? that wasn't me haha. And yes the road salt is bad here. IT SO FUCKING HARD TO FIND ONE WITH ALMOST NO RUST. Here is an example of why i hate living here:

you freaking whore!... sell me one lol i wish there were cars in that good a condition around where I live. But i'd be paying 300$ a month on insurance for a s14 vs 200 for a s13.... and matt is poor so he likes the idea of a cheaper car hehe
-Matt-
BARF! I would honestly not pay over $50 for that. LOL! Maybe $100 to take it off some sweet jumps or something. 56K? Who the eff has 56K still?
Keep looking. I looked for like half a year before I found what I wanted.

Save your money and import something RHD from Japan, you're in Canada and can benefit from the lax import regulations.

thats exactly what i was telling ....... it would probably cheeper for him to import a 180 or s13 from japan with an sr then it would be for him to find a mint s13 chassis here in canada and buy the time he buys the motor and installs it, he'd be over the price of importing an s13/180.
i know thats what im doing if anything ever happends to mine.

I dont know.... but the car had plates and we took it for a test drive. It didn't creak or anything. THe day after though, I went to check out that other car. Funny thing is a 230,000 km ka24de pulls wayyyyyy harder than a 77,000 km ka24e...
so ka24de FTW haha.
And another thing. I cant find any stupid sites that list 180sx' for import. They have mostly skylines, but that's it. *sigh*

I bought my 180 from World Car Link. You can go on all the japanese auction sites and find the exact car you want. They'll give you a price landed in Canada and if you want it they buy it there. They can put any parts you want on it while it's there too(they have a huge car lot and tons of parts). My car is supposed to be here in a month or so, so I'll let you know how it works out. Also check out J-Spec Imports.

it appears J spec imports doesnt have 180sx'... they arent even on the nissan list...wtf
*edit* also, what's the website for world car link? I googled it but didnt find anything.
Go on google. Search yahoo auctions japan. Click translate this page. Check out the cars on there. If you like a certain one just email one of the importers. Just as a reference 100,000 yen is basically $1000. J-Spec can probably get any cars. Those are just the ones they feature on there site. You should check out some of the other cars on yahoo as well.
