i have a '95 that is Blue Emerald (FN2). for those of you that don't know the color looks green but at certain angles there is a blue/purple shading to it, almost like that crazy kromeleon stuff. the kouki green is different, it's just green. i get the feeling that non factory paint will have a different effect from sunlight and will look 'off'.
anyway, i want to add some JDM aero and i want to know if it's worth it to search harder/pay more for parts that are already blue emerald or if i have them painted it will match. somebody here must have put a kit on a car this color. i found one thread and someone commented that it didn't match. did he cheap out on paint or is it impossible?

If your willing to cough up extra dough to pay extra for the same color, u mind as well just get any color and get it repainted.

Any competent body shop can color match whatever you throw at them.

actually blue emerald is extremely hard to color match. even if you take it to a quality shop, i bet it'll only look right from one angle or in certain lighting.

manonegra is right tho, if the shop does quality work, it'll come out good. you pay for what you get.

that's kinda what i figured. it can't cost that much more to get them already painted than a good paint job. especially because i have a friend in okinawa with some spare time. any places to look for them that i can tell her?
anybody have experience to back their claims?

I have that color. I had the front, rear bumper and trunk repainted. No problems. It all matches.

That color change you are referring to is called the "flop" and it depends on what angle the paint is being viewed at and what angle the light is hitting it at. Color matching by eye would be a little more difficult because you should compare it at different angles and in different lighting situations, and then spray it so it's consistent. It's less difficult than it sounds. If possible, it's easier if you get two people to compare it as opposed to just one. After a while your eye gets tired and it's hard to pick out subtle variences.

do you want it PERFECT? or are you willing to do it yourself and be happy with about 80% match?

these guys sell AEROSOL auto paint. all you do is give them your paint code, they mix it and put it in an aerosol can, for small, DIY stuff like body panels. some local shops do the same.
their guarantee sounds pretty good, if it doesn't match you get your money back, minus shipping.
I'm about to paint my aero in Silver Moss, I just ordered 4 cans ($25 each), and don't really care about 100%, since it's a track bitch anyway. But at least my aero will match the rest of my car somewhat.

I've painted Blue Emerald for the front aero and fiberglass fenders on my S14. I used Matrix Systems paint. It can be ordered online. The match is pretty good and it is a very easy to use premixed base with no shelf life. When I first painted it, I could notice a color difference from certain angles, but the basic green color was spot on. Now, almost a year later, I can't even tell the difference, or at least I never notice it anymore. My paint was matched by paint code only.
I have heard of another Blue Emerald owner who had painting done (body shop) two different times, and now has 3 slightly different shades. I guess there is no guarantee though.

you guys are awesome. i'm going to give it a shot finding pre painted parts but i won't worry too much about it. i think i can find a shop that will do a good job if necessary. i might pick up a can of that aerosol for small parts anyway.

Get it matched at a Auto paint supply shop. Matching the older paint will prob be best bet to have it all the same shade.
