all right. i just got my 1990 240sx ca18. complete stock. and i was wondering if i can put an s14 ka24de motor and put the greddy bolt on turbo? or will it be better if i get an s13 ka24de motor and get an turbo kit from ebay. i live in cali so wanna keep it legal. also does my 240 have an vlsd? i would love to know more motor swap options ? so if u can help. thanks

CA18? I don't think its stock then. The 1990 and 89s came with single cam KAs.
You can swap an S14 KA and turbocharge it, but it won't be legal.
Your car does not have a VLSD stock
Other motor options depend on your buget. Aside from other engines avalible in the U.S. will all the smog gear, you don't have much in the way of legal swaps.

You have to swap in an equivalent year motor or newer as well...FYI...

I would suggest swapping in a healthy DOHC KA and using the Greddy turbo kit, which I believe is CARB approved

Check the For Sale Forum often.
Post in the Want To Buy Forum.
Contact local shops (SR20Store, Phase2, etc)
Make sure you get a 6 bolt vlsd.
Happy hunting.

btw - does your S13 actually came with a CA18 or are you just regurjutating what you read somewhere?

dude a ca18det is a beast of an engine, i suggest you either rebuild it if it has high mileage. if not then just go crazy with it, like upgrade turbo, fmic, bov and your usuals.

The only thing that'll make the Greddy kit legal is if its used on a OBDII car. Look at the list, 96-98 240SX. Those are the OBDII cars. I don't think that he's gonna want to switch to OBDII, get it CARB certified (yes, you gotta do that since you're changing motor, SOHC-DOHC) and then spend another, what, $4000 on the kit. After that, you'd have a really empty wallet ann a car that insurance thinks is worth a whopping $1,100.

whats wrong with getting that done? its not hard to carb approve it, as long as you have the obdII wiring harness/ecu. plenty of people switch out their obdII motors for hyphy sr20's anyways./

exactly why you keep the ca18 which has turbo already.

READ THE POST. HE WANTS TO BE LEGAL.

No, its not hard to get the stuff CARB approved, but its a matter of money. If he has money, then go for it.

+1

But, yes, if you want to be legal the KA is the way to go.

and actually to whoever said that he doesnt have a vlsd, he could because u never knowwhat the original owner might have put into it, or the car coulda been a se with the optional suspension package. :)

Even with the SE optional package, the car wouldn't have a VLSD. The optional suspension package was for the '91-'93 fastbacks with the Super HICAS. Unless its a Canadian car (which has a VLSD in all 240's from my understanding), it won't have any type of limited slip; unless, of course, one of the old owners put something in.

I left it open thinking that the thread starter would come with something to save the thread from the shitter.
