So I tried some 1500 deg (supposedly) silver paint on my turbo/manifold the other day and it all flaked off to nasty nothings... Does anyone know of any paint that can be used that will actually hold up? thats my only requirements. My concern is rust and nasties developing, looking for a decent paint that will prevent it. Its no big deal if its heat insulative as I will be running a blanket/wrap (and yes Ive done my reading on them.)

it wont work. it gets to hot for it to stay on. do what most do and rap it up with some heat tape. only option from what i know. good luck

+1 For Ceramic Coating.

Keeps everything clean, plus, keeps heat inside your turbo and manifold, which is more efficient and keeps underhood temps lower.

exacly, I dont wanna spend the loot, take the downtime, and pull the parts for a full on ceramic coating. Ive already got tons of heat wrap and I would rather use that. I just care about rust underneath more than anything.

The shinny silver stuff is good for 1500*, black is good for 1800* and Titanium coating is good for 2200*+

This is titanium coating..

what is your manifold made of such that rust is a concern?

I live in new england. The areas so nasty in the winter I could practically make stainless rust lol.

I figured its gonna be a bitch to work on after all the heat cycles trying to seperate parts... nevermind if anything has rusted together... Ive seen turbos for sale and they always look coated in rust which besides structurally, is not an appealing view in an engine bay.

http://www.techlinecoatings.com/Exhaust.htm They sell the same stuff calico and others use. It's all there ready for you to apply yourself. You will need to read the application guide and really surface prep the piece but it's easily to DIY.
