ok that shit was funny. Part of it was just plain manners and asian manners and part was how to act completely FOB. This is the United States not Cambodia retain your heritage but don't act like you just arrived. lol
P.S. no I am not Cambodian but yes my cultural heritage was considered a minority at one time in this country and was put down. Regardless we wound up integrating into american society and became quite successful culture wise. We are not considered a minority today but just plain american though we did retain our cultural heritage. I will leave it up to you to figure out what my heritage is. :D
Everyone have a Happy Fourth of July.

this is for going into cambodian houses....even if us 'whitewashed' people have assimilated into american culture (ilke my girlfriend and her siblings have) the parents have not. many southeast asian cultures just started coming over to the united states in the mid 70's, when communism/nationalism was on the rise (ho chi minh, mao tse tsung (sp?) and in regards to cambodia, pol pot.) most of the parents came over when they were in their 20's/30's and many of their children were born there and were brought over after a year or so. im sure plenty of people know who im talking about. so yeah, parents of these childrens are still VERY reluctant to assimilate into this culture. its their heritage, these are the traditions that they know. jum reap suor is very common among older folks, just showing them respect. bahp, i hear that all the time from my girlfriend, that i am bahp, because i smack her in the head all the time lol. baht/jah, its just saying yes/what, like when you are called upon. it may be fobbish to some, but for cambodians, its just nature. even the 'whitewashed' ones probably still know this stuff, even if they dont use it.
