View Full Version : Sunk exhaust? Quick fix!

TokyoNights

So I ruined my GT Spec last week and got this craptastic exhaust.
As we all know most of them are sunk in by half a foot with aggressive aero
I had some scrap aluminum sheet laying around that I cut (8"x15") wrapped it around the tip, hose clamped it on.
Done!
http://www.d-faction.com/pictures/mike/muffler.JPG
then put a rivet at the end on the seam

LOL
this is just temp to keep my bumper from catching on fire and exhaust gasses from the interior.
but it doesnt look that bad expecially after it will get carbon deposits on it
8" long not 15"
Dousan I did pull it out a little, that was test fit shot ha
Im gonna go full custom with 2 huge tips dart izumi style and more ground clearance eheh
N1 can exhaust is so lame

Logan at ASpec should be making SPL long-tip canisters to sell. That would be radical.

You guys and your mufflers. PUSSIES!!!!!! Full custom, dual tip, tig welded, mitre bends, full stainless from the head to the exhaust tip, no mufflers, resonates so loud it makes babies cry.

The pics look pretty fair enough.

Im a bigger fan of the twin tip DI style, though.

Did someone call?

And on the 8th day, A Spec created:

http://www.aspecproducts.com/forums/zilvia/muffler/hotinthestreetz_02.jpg

The streets ain't ready. 7" tip jaw droppa (8" if you measure from the inside weld point).

3" inlet, 4.25" tip, straight through no silencer no crybabies.

Burnt tip means business.

Universal muffler so you can't cry about it costing so much for an exhaust.

Full production run coming in a couple weeks. I've got one of the samples, and another customer in WA state got the other.

I originally had this made as a one off just for myself, but us aero folk end up with sunk ass tips :(

It will come in angle cut tip or straight cut tip, burnt with laser etched A Spec logo.

I'll post a special on this thing soon.

offer a cat back i say

since the goal was to have a muffler that would sit perfectly and reach past most (aggressive) aero these days, a catback system would create the problem tokyonights was faced with.

other problems with catbacks are if you bolt it up sometimes it hangs too left or too right in the muffler cut out on the aero, etc

since its universal you can place to your specifications and setup, depending on your aero, etc

just gotta make sure u have a good muffler shop

I might scoop up one of these as my current exhaust seems to be holding me back on lowness and who knows how it will look with aero. Can you make a special one for me where you burn the whole exhaust tip, or would I have to wait for my own fireballs to do that :P

Logan, YES just what the doctor ordered
whats the overall length? and is the inlet slip on(that would be awesome)?
so you can just cut the exising can off and slip this one on then clamp it with exhaust clamp,,that sort of thing.
Let me test that sample one out for you :) serious ;)
I cant wait weeks!

Haha the sample is for MEEEEE, we made two I have no idea why, but a good customer in WA state wanted it so sold it to him.

The overall length of the canister portion is ~14"
The length of the tip portion is 7.5"
If you measure from outside weld point, then 7"

The inlet is not slip on, its just straight cut inlet pipe. My plan for my system was to make a custom flange on the rear muffler section so I can swap this on and off with a more quiet muffler for street.

As far as burning the whole tip, we didn't prefer that style where its all purple, looks too cheesy. Classy style, no overdone burn.

Then make it all ti, and burn the whole thing, gp sports will never get around to sending any more of there exhausts around so why not :P

We already make a Ti one, its been out for a while:

Just be satisfied with the stainless long tip version I had done, its perfect for the "budget" 240sx community.

I was gonna just make tip extensions but figured if I make just the tip extension someone would ask for the muffler too.

Damned if I do, damned if i don't :)

K-Style sells stackable spacers to space the exhaust out, so my hooptie A.P. McRussellPants plan was to make a stack of exhaust flanges, have them welded together to where its about an 1.5in or so and then stick it in between the testpipe and exhaust.

or have something machined, either way I don't care enough to deal with getting K-Style

should push it out decent and the swing on the bushing will bring it up a little too.

logan that muffler does rule and will be a badass option

but muffler period just isnt loud enough

i just wish somebody in the US had ti extensions
sure tokyonights fab up works- but we are all more baller than boring plain metal look

Thats exactly what I was talking about. Have at it logan!

On the other side I messured my exhaust now and it has a 7 1/2 inch tip I wonder if it will be fine with areo, either way I have to make it sit higher.

Brian, the stock manifold is cast steel. To get your car ridiculous you need to get a stainless mani to help keep the sound resonating. That's why my car is so loud.

If only ameen had pics of his custom exhaust sticking out 18" past his already extended huge aero. its all the rage.

why would you wrap sheet metal and a hose clamp around your exhaust when they make exhaust tips specifically made for that porpoise
