I know I'm jumping the gun by making this thread early but I had to do it. I'm pretty excited actually.
I just want to say that I hope X-Men 3 sucked because Bryan Singer is Directing Superman instead. I Kinda have high expectations for this movie too. The comic book industry just needs to redeem itself for the rest of the summer.
Anyone seen it yet? What did you think?
Please don't post any spoilers till tomorrow so that we can all get a chance to watch it first. By "we" i mean "me". :bigok:

Saw it last night. I thought it was excellent and I'm not a big Superman fan. I was going in part to see the Spiderman teaser and because my friend saw it on Tuesday and kept raving about it.
I read somewhere that the movie had a retro feel to it and now I understand what they meant. It really captures the vibe of the first two Superman films.
There is also a pretty cool surprise/twist in the film which will throw you for a look and will make you look forward to more films.
I would like to see it again but this time in IMAX. Easily up there with Batman Begins and Spiderman as far as quality comic book films. Just be warned that there is a strong 'chick-flick' element to it but works in favor of the story imo.

Yea there was a lot of buzz about the Syperman character having a gay feel. Gay Superman, hahaha. He does wear spandex...:goyou:

Well Bryan Singer is gay. Some say that the themes of alienation and longing to fit in in the film come accross so well because of the that. Same with X-Men, a lot of the mutants struggle with fitting in within the human race.

I saw it Monday.
I don't know anything about Superman or comics, but I liked the movie, and wow it was long!

Yea, Puente Hills AMC, theatre 11? Our movie was cut afor a few minutes, but still was awesome.
I liked how his JerryCurl ALWAYS stayed crisp and styled, even in water.
They could have made better use with the plot tho, even though it was still pretty good.

Just got back from seeing it. I liked it. Definately had the feel of the earlier movies. Kinda strange though that it was present day considering all the other films took place present day 20 years ago (not really sure how long ago it was). Also Kevin Spacey made a perfect Lex Luther.
I need to go watch the other 4 or however many of the previous superman movies there were.

Bryan singer only liked superman 1. So he's re-inventing all the other superman.

Snore, I want my $10 back. That movie was fucking long, and boring. I slept through the rising action.

Mmm.
Clark kent, comb over with glasses.
Superman, jerry curl with no glasses.
Movie was alright.
I guess I would've liked it more if I was into the whole DC comics thing.
I went into Xmen3 with the same ambition, and left Xmen feeling like I got my money's worth.
Superman on the other hand...

Hmm.. I'm a recovering comic book fan (ok, i relapse from time to time but I DON'T have a problem.. honestly).
Spiderman and Batman = diehard. X-Men = fan. Superman = not much. Having said that IMO Superman is up there with Batman Begins and Spiderman as concept and execution. X-Men Last Stand was entertaining but flawed overall imo.
I anticipated a lot of people - the casual superhero film fan specially - were going to have a problem with the film. Not because of it's quality and execution but the plot and subject matter - alienation and romance over mind-numbing action. I have to agree though, Lex wasn't much of a villain specially when compared to the characterization on the books but very consistant compared to Gene Hackman's Lex.

Spoiler note!
"here lies the combined super advanced technology about crystals of krypton and 35 other galaxies" and lex uses it to make an island off the coast of new york. That was the gheyest evil villan plot ever! This is the kinda shit that could be summed up on a napkin but instead they summed it up over 157 minutes of wasted film. Eventually over some unspecified timeline this new island will take over the united states and south america some how by sinking them?? and billions of people will die!! BWHAHAHAHHA or move to my ocean front apartments that I'm going to build on this crystal base that looks like a left over asteroid set from armageddon. Someone remind me what the purpose of the missle launcher was? Oh yeah to toss a rock about 100 yards off the end of the boat!!!

I liked the movie since it captured superman vulnerability and frustration. If I was superman I would have given up a long time ago. Imagine having to hear all the shit that goes on in the world.

I heard Kal Penn is a diehard Superman nut and begged to get on the film, hence his diminished role. I've seen it three times now - dunno really why, it isn't THAT good - but no more Spidey teaser in the last two screenings. Wack.

wow i what a snoozefest 2 and a half hours of film and there was barely any action. superman just got his ass beat by a supervillan and didnt even put a scratch on him throughout the whole film...the resolution was him carrying a rock into space...neato way to go superman

haven't read comic books in many many years...
was the kid in the comics too? don't ever remember reading anything like that...
the movie "coud've" been shorter...
i think the movie basically is in sequence with the last one, he left for couple years, lex went to trial, came back w/ lois being married
spiderman 3 looks cool
