Nice. I would be getting that right about now, but my tranny decided to go out. And my hatch (damn spoiler rust) and seats need replacing.
Maybe if I get some graduation money.
How do you like it? How was the install?
Jeff
that seems to stick out a bit far... the muffler isn't exactly hidden underneath the car. While it is a little strange looking, it doesn't look bad... I think I would just need something a little more subtle, though.
Do you have problems scraping over speed bumps or anything? It doesn't look like you have any/much suspension work, but with the muff at an angle like that I imagine it wouln't take too much for you to start scratching it up.

Install was very simple and straight forward.. only annoyance was the damn tow hook. err.. I like it. It's got a real nice growl to it. very cool. Dave (dsc) described it as having an "Import tuner" sound which I guess is pretty accurate.
Maybe it's just those pics, but it doesn't seem to stick out very far in person. Actually the canister seems rather small. I do have to go a touch slower over speed bumps but not enough to really notice. (my apartment's have HUGE speed bumps) it only affected clearance slightly. I'm gonna be putting suspension on soon I think. I'd like to lower it about 1.5" 's.

I don't like the way it looks, but it's not really an appearance mod (though it partly is)

does buying name brands add more HP? or is it a quality issue and if it is a quality issue have you got documentation supporting that the muf wont rust or whathaveyou.....not starting a flame war and im not saying your muf isnt the "bee's knee's" but ive been looking at exhausts and i found a Apex N1 knock off for about 80 bucks cheaper and i compared them side to side and i couldnt tell the difference i dunno help me out!

I bought it to give me a little performance and a nice sound. I think it looks a little weird in that pic too.. but it's a different experience from behind when your staring down the huge opening. I probably would've got the N1 (cheaper) but I don't like the big tip on that exhaust. I like the angled look.
It is a quality peice though. Very well put together. the piping isn't stainless, but it does have a paint coating on it. It'll probably rust one day, but by then I will have ditched it for a larger exhaust.

Well, just getting a knock off of an N1 for $80 is only going to get you the muffler can. You'd still have stock piping and resonator (restrictive with lots of bends), or have to get the piping custom fabricated. If you know some people who do quality work I would go that route, but for a small monetary savings and a large gamble in quality, I too chose the 5Zigen fireball route. If only the N1 dual were quieter. It's a far cooler looking exhaust and I'm sure the performance matches.

What do you guys think of this setup?
HKS Hyper Exhaust w/ the greddy down pipe and Hotshot Headers.
Chimp....Looks nice, and I've heard the zigen....damn nice sounding...smoother than a baby's bottom.

that muffy does look small... but then I'd prefer a small muffler to a bigarse one (I guess)... I'd also prefer a smaller tip. I wonder why all tuners have huge tips at the end of muffies. I probably sound pretty gay huh. but I digress.
How's the sound? I assume it's pretty loud with such a small muffler (does it make a difference?)... I guess you'd have to wait for the thing to... uh... cure? well to settle in before you can make a real judgement, but for the time being, is it louder or softer than an Apexi N1?

looks good man. its got just enough angle and tilt to look good but not ricey...nice job

Why does the exhaust tip stick out so much further than stock exhaust? I'm not really a fan of that, but if it gives your car some nice HP numbers i guess it's not really a factor.

That is one thing I dislike about some exhausts... in how they stick out so much more than stock. What kind of difference do you get from the 5zigen?

Nice one chimp, I like it but one thing i dont like bout the 5zigen(dijon is the proper way pronounced and spelled in japan) is the cut angled tip. I either want the Trust Power Extreme 2 which is angled as well or the hks hyper. But one thing that stops me is i wanna stick wid one company and go all out you know? Well im sure it sounds very deep and nice and not sound like a angry swarm of killabees...

I've had 4 different exhausts on my 92 240. stock, N1, custom 2.5", and the HKS Hiper....in that order.
when I put on the N1, it sounded REALLY nice, I don't think it lessened the lowend, but it definately gave more on the topend. with the silencer in the tip, it's not loud at all.
I wanted to go to smaller piping to raise my low-mid...so I went with a custom 2.5" with a tenzo muffler(it has a similar design, size, etc. yet it has exactly the right inner dimensions for my 2.5" compared to the oversized N1 muffler) thinking back, I think this gave me the most power both low and high...but it sounded like a SCCA race car,if you know what I mean'<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>' and was really loud, really loud....oh, I wasn't running a resonator...so that could have been part of the problem.
I then put on a HKS Hiper (2.5), lowend stayed the same, I'm still not sure on high end...I'm actually starting to think it didn't suffer, I've only had it for about a month, and initially thought my high end went down, but recently. Sounds REALLY nice, very deep, almost loud enough to be too loud.
of course, all this is butt dyno...so I can't prove with numbers. which would I prefer? without testing out the 5zigen, it'd depend on what I'm going to do with my car. If it was going to be racing on the track every weekend...I'd probably stick with my loudass crappysounding custom 2.5". If I knew I was going turbo real soon, I'd stick with my N1, but for now, for everday driving (cops, sound, etc.) the HKS is the best out of the 3 in my view. even if I did lose 2-3 hp...it's worth it for the lower decibals, and nice tone.
honestly, if I needed a new exhaust, and in my current state of tune(NA), I'd either get the 5zigen fireball, HKS Hiper, or the N1 dual(with silencers.) all of which are either stainless steel, or coated, with nice smooth bends, and proven to be effective.

Looks good to me! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
I plan on buying the 5zigen exhaust tomorrow, unless the N1 Dual crosses my mind before I buy it.... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hmmm.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hmmm:'>

oh thats nice but what year of a 240sx u have 240extreme? Also GReddy/TRUST makes a Power Extreme 2 which is hks hyper look alike too. It has prolly the same decibals as the hyper. Since TRUST is all bout deep throaty exhaust u cant go wrong either way. Imma wait til i get my sr20 be4 i get my exhaust thoough. later ppl jus my .02 cents

I haven't had any experiences with greddy.
and if you do get turbo...you'll want something bigger then 60-70mm. try around 80-90mm.

I think why the name brand cat back systems are so appealing is because they are tested and tested. By us the consumer and the company themselves. ALso because of the quality, I'd rather pay $80 more and have my muffler not rust or fall apart in a few months. Most of all most name brand systems are engineered for performance gain and not for sound purposes. IMHO.

...and it gets better sounding everyday. getting a very smooth sound too it.
...also everything I've read says 10-15 whp.. I can believe it. It feels like it added power through the entire rpm range. car pulls harder in every rev. especially up top.
Only issue I had with installation..
a. the hangers are almost too close together on the canister, and I had to really squeeze hard to get the metal hangers to into the rubber peices. and it hit the stupid tow hook. So if you don't Remove the tow hook, you have to put something on it to stop the vibration. I used fuel hose. had to superglue it in place though, kept sliding out.
