I took off my trans Friday to put in my new SPEC clutch. Today we tried putting the transmission back and it would not go. The teeth on my clutch and the cover is scratched but I dont think it matters. So we started hammering the underbody to get more space and still it would not go. So now i am going to do more hammering so I can get this damn thing back on. Did any of you guys have problems like this.

Sort of off topic, but how heavy is the transmission? Do you just need to jack up the front to remove it?
I need to replace mine and I want to save the labor

Although I've never taken a transmission out nor put a transmission back into a car, I think it can safely be said that hammering away at the underbody (floor pan) Is NOT a good idea at all. I imagine that under _no_ circumstances is it really "okay" to hammer out your underbody.

Hammering the firewall to fit an RB25DET in there, sure, but the floor pan?? ......

you damaged your splines? is that what your referring to? ive replaced my clutch and it is hard if you have no one helping you on the garage floor like i did. but i still got it in with no hammer. that just sounds like some half ass job that your doing. have you ever done any type of tune ups on a car to be taking a trans off and putting it back on?

from what youve said what your doing sounds very scary.

i took my tranny out last month and put it back in in about hour and half to two hours, there is no way you should have to hammer at the underbody...either your not lining it up right, or you fucked something up, most likely the spline on your tranny like someone else stated, that or you didnt have the clutch disk lined up right...and the last and only thing i would think it would be is you got the wrong clutch disk...did you check to see if it slid on your spline before you bolted the pressure plate to the flywheel...i dont know of anything else that would cause it to not go back in, mine went right in place....
