heres the story, i bought an ebay intake, no instructions, got it on right, dident come with a bracket for the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, and i forgot to use the old one, well from the force of the car one of the wires broke off the flange for the sensor, my freind looked at it, and said he cant soder it back on, not enough wire exposed to work with, so tell me what i should do
1. does it still work
2. what does it actually do
3. will it affect gas mielage in its currnt state
4. how can i fix it?, like with taking apart the sensor
5. should i fix this imediatly
this is the same sensor i have
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8074241224&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
see the diamond shaped sensor flange, basically mine is one of the wires is not connected just hanging, the other one is fine, as of now i put the old bracket back on.
thank you for all your help, appreciated

you could probably use a resistor, but anyways, look at the sensor where you cut the wires pretty short
when you look at where the connections meet, you can try to use like a needle/pick thingy to try to get what's holding the pins down then push/pull them out, that's what i've done for several of my plugs, then i just use scrap harnesses and take those wire/pins out and replace it with whatever i need to replace

The IAT is used strictly for OBD purposes, does not affect fuel mileage, engine operation, misfire, anything. The only drawback you'll have with it unplugged or damaged is a CEL.
As far as repairing it, it's up to you on what's posible since no one else has seen it.

are u 100% sure, so i can just leave it be, and no detrimental effects will ensue?

if you are throwing a CEL that usually means you can't pass inspection.
if the harness plug broke off, just cut the harness plug off the sensor and the harness. then solder the IAT wires directly to the harness wiring. assuming you actually care that much.

Why the fuck are you going to ask a question if you don't want to hear the answer?
IT WILL NOT AFFECT ANYTHING besides a CEL. If your state emissions testing reads the CEL, then you'll have to fix it. Otherwise, throw it away and move on.
