View Full Version : Clutch Bad, or Something Else!?

Ok,

My 240 has had more tranny related issues then I have had with any car. Not that I hate my car, but dang!

Anyway, here is the deal. A while back the clutch was always engaged. The car would roll on its own in gear, etc. Well I fixed that, turned out to be a leaking slave cylinder and the clutch pedal was adjusted. Now when this was going on the clutch was fine. No slipping or anything.

Weeks later, reverse goes out. At this time when I get on it hard and shift, the clutch kind of slips, the revs die before they pick back up when I shift. I got some worked out and took the damper box off.

Now my clutch slips bad. As in going up a hill, randomly the revs jump up, car wont accelerate with them, etc. Last night though, no slipping at all :wtf: not until right when I got home did it act a little slippy. But even flooring it, no slipping.

Any ideas? Is my clutch actually bad? I have not smelt clutch ONCE in the car. I dont do burnouts or beat on it. I might "attempt to drift" a few times a week on a 90 degree corner, but no parking lot spinning tires and hardcore dorifto action.

Should I bleed it again? Adjust pedal? What if oil is getting on the clutch? There is fluid all under my car and on the tranny like it is leaking somewhere, from the motor not tranny, could that make it slip? Also might be a coincidence but it seems to slip more in the day then at night. HELP!!!:sadwavey:

yeah... you have engine oil leaking out from somewhere under the car?

i suggest taking a good hard look at where the tranny mates to the engine. clean it off. make sure its not the oil pan that is leaking. if you have oil seeping out of there, your rear main seal may be leaking.

fixing it requires taking off the tranny, pressure plate, clutch, and flywheel.

Sounds like oil on the flywheel, that would make it slip, but not all the time, it'll burn the oil off and work good for awhile till it gets oily again.

If you're gonna be pullin the engine or tranny, might as well throw a new clutch at it (word of advice, get the whole clutch balanced before you put it on, they say they are balanced out of the box, but don't believe em, you'll be surprised how much metal gets removed to get it balanced)

Well right now trying to avoid pulling the motor or anything. But I am going to check leaks and all, but I guess if I do pull I will be changing my clutch and whole tranny for a piece of mind.

Try readjusting the clutch. After I did a swap, in my friends car, the pedal was out just a little too high. On warm to hot days after quite a bit of driving the clutch would start to slip. At night though it never really seamed to be an issue. Took me forever to figure it out.

Well wierd, today it did not slip at all. I jacked the car up and cleaned it a little. Adjusted the clutch a little, and drove it all day. No slipping at all...:keke:
