whats the final word on SUBFRAME BUSHINGS? NOT INSERTS

What is the final word on RUBBER/POLY subframe bushings? I mean the ACTUAL REPLACEMENT ones, not the inserts.

So far, the only thing i've heard of is using the 300zx subframe bushings from Energy. HOWEVER, those are a LOT taller. I would think this would adversly affect handling... Has anyone tried trimming these down? Know of a better solution?

Just for history, i have the poly/glass INSERTS. They helped a lot, but i want a more solid feel. I dont want to go with full metal bushings though. The full metal bushings ride way too hard for my personal preference. The work involved doesn't scare me, but i only want to do it once, and right.

ALSO, has anyone replaced the differential bushings? did that do anything at all?

chris fosberg did this on the s15 (solid metal bushings)
broke axles
upgraded axles
broke his ring gear.
and he's barley pushing 400 rwhp

diff bushings? no need. i use s13 diff on my s14
and the rear is 2 bolt, no biggie.

Didn't you have to modify something to make them work? Aren't they a lot taller than the stock ones?

Does anyone know how having taller bushings will affect handling?

I am going to go with the Silk Road subframe bushings. They are 150 buck.

I never really thought about it...:duh: I saw the blue bushings and they looked poly or rubber to me. I sent an email to drift factory asking them, so i'll post up their response ASAP.

Nismo also has subframe bushings which are supposed to be more rigid than stock bushings but softer than the polyurethane ones from ES.

I've got aluminum and I've loved every mile on them so far. But by no means is this a daily.

The cost of the nismo ones are prohibitive in them selves. While Nismo lists the at like $175, they only come with 4, and according to Nissan you need two set. So it's like 350 for Nismo. As to Silk Roads I have no idea what they are anymore. Modern Speed Labs said that they were replacement bushings. The discription had me thinking poly. Drift Factory said that they aren't replacements, and that they are poly. DF said that Silk Road switches back and forth, but right now they are poly. Ummm... so now I'm not even sure anymore. :loco: :confused:

I previously was using CUSCO subframe collars only but since I did my ES master kit install I also used teh ES subframe inserts with my CUSCO collars and it feels 5x better than before I just cut the slits out and inserted them in the empty spaces in the stock subfraem bushings feels great.

well i couldnt measure them because i burned out the oem bushings, but i didnt have to modifly anything at all. they cant be too much taller because the studs still had plenty of threads available. bolted right up and improved ride quality and handling ten-fold.

i had origionally bought the solid bushings from SPL but i sold them and got the ES because my car is a semi daily driver and i thought the alum bushings would have been too rigid

also, i bought the differential carrier bushings at the same time, because i thought.. its gonna be out.. might as well get them in case they look shot. but mine looked fine.. so back in the box they went.

i didnt think the inserts would have even helped all that much

the inserts dont work when the bushings are busted. i've proved this. i actually think the intserts broke my oem bushings :(

Sorry to thread jack, this made more since then starting a new thread, so why is it not a daily driver? are the solids that rough? and how long did it take to install them?

There is no rubber or poly left anywhere in my rear suspension so its tough for me to tell which parts attributed most to the stiff ride. For me the roughness isn't a negative thing at all. The car feels super solid. I like to describe it as vaultish. Nothing jiggles or rattles over railroads or any other road disturbances WI roads can throw at me.

Its not a daily because I want it that way. Its a track only/sunday cruiser when your in a crazy illegal fast mood.

It took several hours all told to install.
