Yea, do it the right way the first time. Do OEM ECE HID's all the way!

so any of those "complete kits" can be used to retrofit?
and does retrofitting mean just fitting the kit into the existing projectors in the oem headlights?
also, the cutoff on these kits in s14 kouki headlights can be adjusted right? I hate those people who blind me on the highway.. :fawk2:

retrofitting means to fab the headlight housing to fit the projectors and make it look like its factory. and yes, all projectors or headlight can be adjusted up and down. its just harder to make a cutoff with the projectors because its a metal plate by the projector.
and stay within 3.5k - 5k for natural lighting. anything higher than that is just taking more light away from you. which is not worth it for just a better a color. the lower the temperature means more lighting, and that means the higher the temp mean less lighting.

i got 'cheapie' ones
dont care because i dont street driv anymore really
but if i still did daily drive, i woul dhave done the S2K retrofit on the kouki headlamps
but i went cheapie route. 4k output iirc
should be sweet.

How hard is it to retrofit? how much would shops charge to retrofit a HID kit into my existing s14 projector?

SimpleS14 has and excellent writeup on how to do the swap.
http://www.s14db.com/hid/writeup_hidretrofit.html
I'll show him the thread for him to post.
As far as cut off. They are ECE projectors from a 745i. ECE is German DOT. They have a better cut off than US DOT. More flat than the US's up sweep on the left. Great output.
HID bulbs suck in the stock kouki housing cause the housing is shaped for the halogen bulb. when the HID bulb is in there it totally screws it up. looks OK but the color balance and light balance is totally screwed up.

retrofitting in a headlight that already has projectors in it is completely retarded. i dont understand why people care so much about cutoff. so what if some douchebag in a metro gets headlights in his face.

Not really. The cutoff is fine. the shape of halogen projectors reflector is a different ellipsoid than the HID projectors. This make the color and light distribution really fucked up.

See how it goes white at the top/wall, then Yellow, then Blue. The Yellow washes out in any street light. the blue is gone on asphalt. The farthest part out is the only part that is visible.
For the cost of and HID Kit that has re-potted bulbs you can pay a little bit more get HID projectors and be much happier with the output.

ECE output. I need to get a better pic on a flat wall. But you can see how white and balanced the output is. Those are 4300K Philips bulbs.

well, i remember on HID planet forums, i saw some guy drop some s2k projectors in his kouki housing. it was hot. search for it. its prolly still around somewhere

That's like saying "i don't understand why people care so much about wheel offset". To someone knowledgeable, it makes a whole difference, than to some tool that knows nothing. HID bulbs have different focal length than a typical halogen bulb. This is why glare and hot spots are a big problem. If it was that easy, car manufacture would just throw in a hid kit; but it's not dot compliant or legal. It's not about blinding people. it's about putting the most light onto the ground. HID kits shoots lights into the sky, there's nothing for the light to hit and for you to see; so it's a waste.

$1785.00 for those crappy looking headlights is too much...thats a rip off from clearcorners.com. but to each their own. i'll stick with stock halogens for that price. $1785 can be used in a motor or suspension/body work/rims.
