testing a few things electrically and have a few questions...
battery no load = 12.4
battery under load = pretty much same
alternator under load (idle first minute of starting) = same as battery
is my alternator busted??
after a 15 mile drive now the battery reads the same as before i started it

i'm taking it off tonight and will be taking it to a bench tester tomorrow...
will an alternator from a sentra se-r (SR20DE) fit on my S15 motor?

thats the same question i ask myself and others. i'm having the same problem too. its drianing my battery or could it be my grounding that is bad cause my starter grounding keeps poping off everything i put it back. it just died on me whn i was on the way ta work.

bench test it yourself. start the car, pull the ground cable off your battery. if the car dies, your alternator's dead/dying. if it keeps running, then its doing its job and charging the battery. it will die almost immediately.

well i didn't do the ground wire test ... here's a picture of the alternator to lead me to believe it's broken
the load tester will tell the truth today...

If you are not getting at least13+ volts out of the alt or at the batt WILE the car is on. It is not doing it's job.

i had the same problem....swapped it out with a KA alt and it worked fine...only thing is change out the sr alt bracket for the ka and it will work. I have a S14 Kouki SR20DET and it works fine.

after I relocated my battery to the hatch to make way for a front mount, my car hasent been keeping a charge either. My turbo timer and SAFC tell me the voltage is below 11, and this morning while the car was running it was at 10.8 and declined as the RPM's went up. Needless to say I got a ride into work this morning cause with my battery like that Im driving a life size remote control car. Dead battery, dead car. a real time battery meter is a really good idea, I never had a use for one but since I have had access to one, its nice to know whats going on.
The grounding lead to the alternator touched my turbo oil sending line and grounded out, was enough to cook some electrical tape, since then it hasent been the same. My wiring might be crapping out there too. Let us know how it goes

Turns out NAPA says the alternator is dead....going to be hooking up a KA one tonight. I'm using the SR bracket but going to drill out the bottom mount hole on the KA so I can use the SR hardware.
