Hello, I am new to this forum as well as the nissan world. My question is going to be short and simple. I recently came to realize I am in need of a new daily driver. A few years back I worked on an SR swap with some friends and it worked out pretty nicely but unfortunatly the guy could not afford to properly finish the car and he sold it (it ran great but needed some extras). My questions are as follows:

1. How hard and how much will the swap cost (assuming I have a shell and the swap is done 100% proper)?
2. Should I order a front clip or just the motor,tranny, electronics package and get the rest of the stuff aftermarket?
3. How reliable is the car when ran properly on stock psi etc... I don't plan on going over 7 psi anytime soon
4. Is JDM Racing Motors a good place to order motors. I called them up and they seemed like a reasonable and respectable company: http://www.jdmracingmotors.com/index.php?area=contactus
5. Can I use the 240's stock radiator and where can I get a decent intercooler for a good price (Heavy Throttle is kinda pricey)

1) if you have a hard time installing cams or installing a diff into an open pumpin then its hard. cost anywhere from 3.2k to 4k depending on how much they rape you.

2) front clip makes it easier

3) depends how you drive and care for the car. if you know what your doing it should be fine.

4) Venus auto is my favorite

5) have fun getting hoses to work.. unless u use flex. if you dont want to make your own welds or calculate angles for intercooler bends and so forth then heavy throttle is a reasonable price. a lot of shops are willing to make intercooler piping for our cars.

swapping is cake, do it yourself and dont pay peeps to do it for you. you will actually learn more this way too. Order a fron clip and as for reliability goes, its should not be any less reliable as the stock KA motor, unless you do heavy modding. JDM racing? never heard of them but since they accept visa/mastercard you can always get your money back if things go wrong.

If your worried bout reliability issues, youd be better off getting an engine rebuilt. It ultimately comes down to the simple fact that these engines are used. Most of the time, they come out of wrecked cars that has been pushed hard. What breaks the car is not how hard its pushed, but how well its been maintained or not.

Couple of things i learned from dealing with SRs. Preferably, I get engine sets since a) cheaper b) i dont have to worry bout discarding the clip c) I can get an automatic engine.
I say automatic since to me, autos have a tendency to have been better cared for. Drifters dont like autos *for the most part* Also since its auto, it has a lower rev limit and the ECU keeps the engine from being pushed too far.

Make friends with 240 owners living near you. Chances are they've done a few SR swaps and would be willing to help you for food or beer. Best way to learn.

Complete clip if you're planning on staying stock and don't plan on mods anytime soon. Motorset if you're ready to upgrade the radiator, intercooler, etc.

Factor in ~$1500 for unforseen costs (toast clutch, fluids, broken stuff, etc)

Have fun and make sure you have a daily beater, else is School of Hard Knocks 101 for you.
