Ok, I picked up a 1990 240 with the sohc, that needed a timing chain job. Finished the timing chain and put everything back together. Finally, got it started correctly with the right timing and then replaced the battery because it was completly dead. It Idle fine after the timing chain job and start up, but after the first drive when I put the car back into park the idle jumped up to about 2200 rpm. I can't get it to go back, where should I start? I don't think its the TPS.

check for vacuum leaks and make sure the tps is properly secured, and you might want to check the mafs.

Any other ideas? I can't seem to find a vacuum leak anywhere. But I've tried playing with the TPS and there is no response what so ever. Does anyone have a pic of the TPS on hte SOHC just for clairifacation. It should be the harness connected to the trottle body right? I can rev the engine with it plugged in or unplugged and there's nothing.

Try to bring it down with the idle adjustment screw then see if it's holding steady. May also try to clean out or replace the iacv

Problem fixed. Yeah, I had to get some cleaner and clean out the Iacv. After it was cleaned real good, I realized that s13coupedrfter was right, the previous owner had set the idle as high as it would go, to avoid the car from dieing with the dirty Iacv. Thanks for your input guys!

I'm stoked to hear it worked out for you! Good job

Almost forgot, an oil catch can could help reduce the gunk that ends up plugging the iacv too.
