Dynos have proven that the KA likes a 3 inch exhaust. More power and no loss. Go for it.

Do it. Its been proven time and time again that there are great gains with 3 inch exhaust.

3" will be loud...on the most part at least, but if you dont mind the sound, go for it!

Loud yeah, but most exhausts come with a silencer. Just keep it in on the street and life will be good.

Exactly.

I had the 3" on mine with the KA and now with the SR. The KA was loud...but nice too. Great sound and good power. I say do it.

I take it no one here has an auto. A friend of mine has a civic thats auto, and I think his exhaust might be 2.5". He came to my house today and rang the doorbell and I didn't even know he was outside! Its that way with most auto's I see, real quiet unless pushed. I guess I'll find out in a couple of days if I still manage to get it installed. I got some rsr orido exhaust that has a big oval muffler and a big resonator (shaped like an oval muffler.) Don't plan on ever getting a header so we will see.

Was 3" loud enough on the KA that you guys worried about cops? Sliding Ninja what exhaust are you looking at?

^ That depends more on the exhaust and the engine, not the transmission. The only difference between a manual and an auto with an aftermarket exhaust is that when the auto shifts for you everyone can hear it and then you are really embarrased.

I'm running 2.5inch exhaust. I see no reason to go up to 3inch.

oh btw my 2.5inch exhaust "vibrated" a cop and i got a 112dollar defective exhaust ticket. KA's are LOUD when opend up.

I'd really like to see these dyno comparisons.

If 2.5 is what you already have, upgrading for a few HP is not worth it. But going from stock to buying a new aftermarket exhaust there is no reason to not go to the 3 inch unless the noise will really bother you.

I'd really like you to search for them, like the thread starter should have before starting this thread, this has been beaten to death

when i used to have 3in na i got pulled over like 5 times and got all warnings (keep in mind daily driving no more than 2.5k), and yeah they are loud, but i was running no cat and was still loud after changing from a open canister to a magnaflow...

Are we talking 3inch cat back? because doing a 3inch cat back probably would be fine because you still have restrictive piping.

I'm runing a 4 into 1 header straight to 2.5inch piping with no cat. back to a non restricting muffler.

Now 4 into 1 header wtih 3inch back from there would probably not be so smart. I dont think the race guys even use 3inch.

I've seen on dyno scales, stock KA's with 3'' exhaust get few horses and torque. I just got my GP Sport Spec D on my stock KA, love it, sounds like a WRX. I think its me, but I can kind of feel the difference. Give it a try.

I take it your GP is 3". Is it the type that runs two pipes instead of one like the ni dual or ss auto? Cause I thought I read that with two pipes its quieter. Do you still have your cat? I do, and I won't be getting a header, so it can remain. So I hope that helps. My exhaust basically looks like an exmag, but with a straight tip and resonator. I dunno alot about it. Like I said I will see hopefully on mon.

Quick question. What about running a 2.5inch highflow cat with a header (be it DC sports of Hotshot) and a 3inch catback with a welded in 1.5ft resonator to a muffler?? Think that might be a bit excessive in the loud department??

Depends on the exhaust you use(ie resonantor/muffler length and size etc.) Not all 3in exhaust sound the same.

I have Dc sports header with a 3 inch exaust, the fewest bends posible and is hell loud if i dont use the silencer, with the silenter if u dont go above 3k rpm is ok, i recomend 3 inch too is pretty cool, the engine feels strong =)

with the 3 inch exaust and a aluminium flywheel i could down my 1/4 time .500 O_o

How about the circuit sports 3 incher with the above mentioned parts?

I have apexi n1 dual.. 3" and it splits to 2 2.5" piping... and im happy with it, get a lot of good complements on the sound, and yeah def can feel the high end compared to a car with stock exhuast.

Ive had this on my car for 3 years and i live in CA. I drove to community college everyday for 2 years as well as all over the bay area. I HAVE NEVER been pulled over for it, even though the n1 dual is known to be louder... I have stock header and have a cat though.

If you DONT drive like an ASS on the street, you most likely will not have problems, unless the cop is just really having a bad day.

I have a DC sports header, CATCO high flow cat, 2.5" exhaust piping with no resonators, and a Magna flow muffler.
1.) I chose it because it is proven to have a lower decibel output.
2.) It suited me fine.
3.) I like to follow simple thermal dynamic principles (scavanging, and smooth exhaust pulses, along as keeping exhaust temprature higher). Higher exhaust tempratures seems to flow more effeciently if surrounded by the proper diameter piping, increasing exhaust flow moves it out the pipe faster.
4.) 2.5" pipe is cheaper and honestly to those that don't know it will prove the same comparitive results. I've seen dyno's where 2.5" makes 7 whp, just as 3" will make 7 whp.
5.) These debates are really stupid and go no where. Buy what you want at your descretion it's your money...

Just up, I got my exhaust put on today on my zenki auto. I LOVE IT!!!!! 3" Id, NOT OD. I measured! When I first started it up I was kinda nervous fearful it would be ridiculous loud. Boy was I suprised. You would have thought the stock exhaust was still on if not for the very light rumble after you turn the key. I reved it and it sounded the same way it did before I got it put on. I mean I actually got out the car, and made sure all the piping was put on and not just the muffler rear section. I know sounds dumb, but I had to make sure it was still 3" lol.
Seems like if you wanna run 3" and stay quiet, its big oval muffler and big resonator FTW. To each their own, but like I said I love mine. If not for the tip, you would never know I had a 3" mandrel bend catback. Like I said I dunno much history on my exhaust, I bought it used, but dig up my old thread like a month back when I bought it.

It's so quiet if I ever get pulled over, I will have to fight it in court, because it would simply be harassment. I mean I floored the car for a short interval when there was no one in my flow of traffic and no one on the opposite side even looked at me! If having a turbo does quiet things down, if I ever did KA-T you would even here the itsy bity I do now lol.

BTW...sorry fore diggin this thread up, but I'm just sharing my experience

is that a custom made header tre?

I've heard a 3inch on my buddies SOHC. Talk about loud. It was unbearable.

WOW I must got the special case 3" lol, cause Im nowhere even close to being that loud. NOwhere. I would probably have to lose my cat, and probably still wouldn't come close. Maybe but I doubt it. At idle in park you can't even hardly hear it.

Yours does have a nice growl to it though, but I'm trying to stay lowkey

That header looks like a greddy header which was discontinued because they crack at the collector pipes. They were only made for the s14.

Yes it is a greddy. Yes it did break off at the collector. Yes i did weld it back on and never had a problem again. It cracked at the head flange on two pipes. Took it off and welded it back up again. Works great still.

Need to install it on my new car. But i'd like to get a magnaflow muffler first.
