Sorry for the long post but i wanted to make sure I had all the bases covered..
Here's my story. About a year ago (July '05), I bought a '95 240 and it was running great and everything. In October, i found out a blew the headgasket and took it to get replaced at a local shop. They had my car for probably 3 weeks after i find out the machine shop they used to resurface the head was having problems or whatever and they were lagging it. they get the head back and find out the top front timing cover was cracked and had to also be replaced. they had problems finding one and after two weeks of them "searching" for one i take it upon myself and find one in an afternoon. then when i bring it to them so they could finish the job, they said it didnt fit because it wasnt lining up properly. so i got fed up with them, paid what i owed them and took it to another place.
well I get my car back from "shop B" and all is good and inevitably go back to shop B for a tune up this past march. they tell me that my head gasket looked messed up and the head needed to be resurfaced again, new head gasket needed to be installed and the front cover was still leaking oil. They gave me an estimate but by looking at it they already knew i had it done and i told them when i got it done. They said i should go back and have "shop A" fix it. Instead of heeding their warning, i continued to drive my car and sure enough after after about 6 weeks, the headgasket ends up blowing again.
Now since the first headgasket was replaced, I had only put less than 2k miles on it. I'm afraid I have to go back to Shop A and have it done. Now when I had it replaced I asked "what happens if something goes wrong?" the owner responds with "if something happens, just bring it back". I didnt have the time/patience to have anything written on the receipt but he knows who I am. So my question is, am I in the right to have them fix it again for free or what? I already paid a grip to have it done and its not like I'm an agressive driver. I'm looking for some good advice before I hit him up. And do you think that a screwed up resurface could have screwed up the fitment on the front timin cover since its in line with it cause thats what I was thinking back when they were having problems putting it on.. And are there any precautions to take next time like getting a more durable headgasket? advice would be greatly appreciated.
