I vaguely remember the original concept car for the "new Z" which we now know as the 350Z. It had a 200HP/245lbs-ft KA24DE in it, as seen:

Anyone happen to know anything more on that engine? Did they really get that horsepower from the KA in factory level trim, or was it jus concept car blathering?
I'd love to have had a 200hp KA in stock form.

I'm guessing concept car BS.
It looks too stock S14ish to generate those numbers.

it's definitely ugly, but if Nissan had somehow figured out the formula for that kinda power from a 2.4L KA, i'd love to know how they did it.
As a OEM manufacturer they can custom make stuff and also do lots of precise tuning with the ECU- all stuff that might be impractical or cost-prohibitive for a private tuner.
Destroke it a bit, raise the RPM, better blah blah blah, i dunno, all with factory durability and research...sigh...

bore and stroke..... and compression..... would be nice if they had shots of the engine bay....

i dont think it looks all that bad actually. i like the round style 240z headlights better than what they went with.

245nm, not 245 lbfeet. I was absolutely astounded reading that at first but then I went and read the specs and it had 180lb feet.
Thank god they diddnt go through with that, thing would have been a dog. Weight was listed at 3100 pounds.
Actually, wtf am I talking about. That car would have been amazing for them to make, just not as a z

if they cut a few hundred lbs off that and called it a 240sx i'd buy it.

Whoa, I almost just typed the exact same statement. Freaky.. But yeah, definitely a dog, look at the 0-60, 7.0 seconds. meh, it was a concept, nothing more.

They probably would of just raised the compression like they do on all there sports cars with a slightly retuned ecu. Doesn't the 350z have a 10.0:1CR? Would make more sense to raise the compression and calibrate new fuel/ignition maps. Nissan pretty much keeps the same cam timing and durations on all there factory engines...

350z is 11:1 believe. Chances are the motor had variable valve/lift timing since that is almost a necessity nowdays for a car to be able to make decent power and pass emissions. They could give it a full counter weighted crank too allowing the revs to be a good bit higher.
200hp n/a to the crank isn't that hard to achieve in the ka24de
and thank GOD they didnt choose that car. it looks like a 350z/nx2000 mix
