got a chiltons book which is less than helpful in explaining exactly how to remove the starter..
i have the car jacked up and removed the one bolt i could find, on the side of the starter with 2 bolt holes. i guess there's one on the other side of the starter, but how should i go about removing that? it looks nearly impossible to get to. and is it 14mm like the other bolt?

a swivel huh? should i be trying to get to the bolt from the bottom under the car or from the hood?

Well there's a long way to get to it. but will prove easier (to an extent).
Drop the drive shaft. drop the exhaust. And under the tranny mount. Enginge will lean back far enough so you can get your hand up there with a wratchet and socket to get it undone.

well i got out there with a 14mm wrench and ..eventually, got it off. got the starter off, replaced it with another, and it still doesn't work. before, it wouldn't even crank, now it's cranking the starter just 'zapzapzapzapzap' as i try to start, no engine movement. much more than it did before. any idea?
the wire that connects to the top bolt on the back of the starter that i had such a hard time getting to was blocking it, it really was not as hard as it should have been but the wire there was causing me trouble. it's much easier to get to now..
anyways the problem i had before, the car wouldn't start. i hit the starter and it started a few times, but since then i've had to push start it.

got it... swapped the battery. the battery sat on my charger for a while and even after that it was reading about 11.8 volts... cars running now

ugh really confused now, car starts with a jump from another car, doesn't start by itself, when put on the charger it reads fully charged, doesn't start from 50amp 12volt jump from starter, only from another running car.
both batteries. really..really..confused.
