View Full Version : sr20det stops running after tapping rev limiter

Well, I'm not quite sure how to put this into words. Basically I have a 91 240sx hatch with a 92 sr20det. I didn't do the install, nor the wiring, and bought the car as-is. The weird thing is while drag racing, usually at the top of 3rd, I'll tap the revlimiter, and hit 4th, and it just dies for a second or two. I mean DEAD PEDAL. Tried pumping it to get it going, but nothing. After a second of dead pedal, the engine comes back to life. Has this happened to anyone else...
Any help would be appreciated,

try not hitting the limiter, it's not really necessary and more of a waste on the drag strip.

My problem is traction. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd spin up on throttle alone (damn one-legger).

switch you ignition coil with a good known one, and check you plugs. and ohh yea it is not necessary to hit the rev limit as you shift. good luck

when u hit the rev limiter the ecu cuts fuel to the engine for a second or so from what ive experienced...cuz its happened to me a good amount of times when i hit my speed limiter in 4th or 5th

Thanks, just making sure something was going out only at the top end of the engine. I went to the performance shop and they said they could get me 22x8.5" slicks for 150 each, but they had a set of mildly used 28x11.75" slicks for a bit cheaper, I just don't know how to stuff 'em in the car!

I would say something is definately out of whack. I've hit the limiter in practically every gear except 5th and the engine never died for a second or two, it just bounced on the red a few times then I backed off. If I experienced what happened to you when I hit it, I would have hit the wall at Nikko, Ebisu, Fuji and a handful of other tracks ya'll never heard. Now my KA S14 did exactly what you are talking about when I pegged the car out in 5th, but it wasn't the rev limiter that shot me down, it was the speed limiter.

Whenever you hit the rev limiter or speed limiter, it triggers the Fuel Cut ROM for a 1/4 of a cycle...you can get the fuel cut defencer and rev and speed limiter from HKS, or you can get you ecu reflashed to take out the rev and speed limiter, but either way, I wouldnt hit the rev limiter on a SR it I were you....floating a valve is the best thing that can happen whenever you rev that high, plus, there isnt too much power over 7K RPMs anyway
