View Full Version : 300zx rims on backwards....DANGER!!!??

Ok, i'm rocking the 300 zx 5 lug rims. They have like 5 fat spokes in a swirlish design..(thats the best way to describe them, but you should all know what they look like)
NOW, my question is....
Will putting the rims on "backwards"(meaning the "swoosh" part is facing backwards instead of forwards) be dangerous? Are the rims ONLY meant to face one direction?
Are they designed to take stress from one direction? Will it break/crack easier if i put them on the opposite way?
The reason i'm asking is.... I mounted the tires on the rims backwards... So to make the tread direction go the proper way, i have to put the left rim on the right, and the right rim on the left...
Im also concerned because i previously broke one of these rims. I dont remember what direction it was facing, but basically there was a crack ALL THE WAY THROUGH one of the "spokes". That was WITHOUT stress impact...just the stress of hard driving, and maybe a rim defect(i hope)

it DOESNT matter.. Its only the design that is getting backwards. Enjoy the tires =D
If you previously broke one of the rims, you should have replaced teh whole rim or have it repaired correctly.

the swirlish desing is for brake cooling, you will be fine.

No, the rim was Smashed with a sledge hammer(so no one would re-use it) and thrown away. The crack was ALL THE WAY through the "spoke" too! Scary stuff.
So the design has NO effect on which way the rim is stronger?! Hopefully the last broken rim was just a freak incodent then

Exactly. You'll be fine no matter what direction it's facing. Like you said, hopefully the last one was just a freak thing.

if you run into a Z32 guy and they scream "WHEEL POLICE" and like... kick you in the nuts and then run away, don't be scared. There are just Z32 owners who are freaks about the wheels pointing the right direction.

haha. Funny you mention that... I was thinking...."great, now some freekin z32 freak is going to look at me and think.....fucking ricer!!!!"

Are they freaks about them facing the right way for LOOKS, or for strength?

well, they're shaped the way they are for brake cooling, so I'm assuming its for performance. It doesn't have anything to do with strength really... At least I like to think its for performance. Us Z32 owners are closet ricers though (I want to paint my car orange so badly it huuuuurts.), so its probably actually for looks. I wish I had some pix of how it looks, but honestly, its not something I even notice. It almost always has to be pointed out to me. Though I noticed it one time without it being pointed out and I was very proud of myself. I probably have 120394809234 pix of backwards wheels on my computer, but I just don't know it. hehe.
