View Full Version : RB20DET wiring into S14

Already searched and not much info out there with relation to a RB20 swap into a S14. I did find some info for one into a S13...but I'm not sure if I can use the same info. I should also note that this is not listed in the RB Faqs thread.

Before I start reading a FSM.....

I'm making this thread to see if anyone has any information or advise on how I can go about doing the wiring for a RB20 into a S14.

TIA

I guess I made this thread too soon. However, just incase someone does a search in the future....I found this link: http://s92978298.onlinehome.us/RB/gtr_plugs.pdf and it appears to be helpful..that is once I have the harness with me.

i think its not posted since is not really a motor worth spending the fundage to get, let alone modify. yes essentially if you found an rb25 crank, rods, pistons drop them in. you would be on point since they are essentially stroked rb20s IIRC. unsure of wiring too. make mention if yours is an s14 zenki/kouki base model or se, auto or 5spd originally. since wiring does differ slightly

I can understand that if your HP goals are above 400rwhp, but this will not be the case...so the RB20 is a reasonable motor. The car is a 95 Zenki auto that is now a 5spd.

If anyone look at that link I posted....does it make sense? I'm guessing I splice the wires coming from the 95 240SX F3 connector into the RB20 harness.

I don't really understand this stuff. Does anybody explain it anywhere? SimpleS14, is that chick your girlfriend? she's kinda hot.

Pretty much what your doing is cutting wires from the S14 harness and extending them to the RB20 harness. It makes more sense when you have the actual harness in front of you.

Here is the thread where I found that info: http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=69266&page=2

As for the chick in my avatar, that is Kristen Kreuk....

*sigh* Sadly she is not my girl...but I can dream....

it's outrageously simple, about 20 splices + lower harness.

happy to seen another white kouki getting an RB20DET

I am SO confused. . . I don't know what they're talking about in the forum, and all the step-by-step guides they have have broken links. The links on racebread are broken, too.

I read on sportscarcompactweb that I can put the whole harness (engine/dash) over the S14 dash harness and wire the ignitions together. That is what I did, but I haven't wired the switches together yet, and it doesn't work. The engine cranks but won't start. I hot wired the fuel pump, and it works, but the engine won't start still.

I like your simples14 site though. If I write a guide for the RB swap, will you put it on there? It'll make life easier for everybody else.

Kristen Kreuk is hot.

I wouldn't mess with too much of my dash wiring if I were you. If you make a guide and its credible, I will host it on my site...of course you will get the credit.

Pretty much the same as an SR install as far as what goes in the car, fuel pump feed and power, ignition, O2 power, ECCS relay feeds, etc. and then the cluster wiring.

not to be condecending but check fuel and spart to start out with, when useing the stock fuel lines on my car theyt had a tending to bend and crimp themselves to cut off fuel. had to re-size them. but that is a best case scenerio. it also took a while to get the damn motor to stert with cranking over.

Got it started today. It wouldn't start, then I took out one of the plugs to check for spark, and the engine actually started, for what it could do, so I put the plug back in and it started for a second or two before dying. It did that a few times, and sounded a bit better each time, but wouldn't stay going. I hotwired the fuel pump, and left it going for about 4-5 hours on accident, and I tried to start it and it fired right up 3 or 4 times. I put the cover over the spark plugs, and put everything back together, and now it won't start. Is the little computer (I don't know what it's called) on the back of the cover getting shorted when it is grounded or something?

I figured out the problem, the fuel pump needs to be wired into the RB harness.

Do you guys know which wires they are on the RB and in the S14?

Thanks!

Got the fuel pump running, but now there is no spark! I am pretty sure I have double checked everything, but does anyone know what I should do to get spark, what I should check, etc? Thanks!
