Heres my problem: I just put a new headgasket on, and the head an front cover are all back on now. Now I'm at the part where I need to set the timing and I'm having a little trouble. I positioned the crankshaft so that No. 1 piston was set at TDC and the key way was at 12 o clock. I aligned the only off colored link on the chain(it was a copper color while everything else was darker) with the mating mark on the crankshaft sproket. The FSM kept talking about mating marks on the chain, but I never found any. Now I've installed the camshafts and all, setting the right hand one to 10 o clock and the left hand one to 12 o clock. Before I took anything off when i first started out, I marked a small white mark on the chain where it ligned up with the mating marks on the camshaft sprokets. Now those white lines arent lining up with the mating marks. I'm not sure what to do. The white marks on the chain are a few links off on each side. Should I pay no attention to these white marks now? I am confused on what to do. I need some help. This is on an s13 redtop btw. Thanks.

well if the chain moved while you were working on it then ignore the white marks. it sounds like it did.i have a diagram thats been modified and helped me alot when i ran into the same problem. also be very careful when rotating the camshafts. i bent a valve by turning the camshaft with the timing chain unhooked. i hope this helps, i can also send it to your email so you can viem it bigger. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/drifter808/timing.jpg
