Ok... I have a 1995 s14 with a manufacture date of 10/94.
It has the obd 2 plug under the PASSENGER side, by the radio. However, after some research, i'm pretty sure it is still considered as obd1, and therefore a obd2 scanner will not work even though the plug is there...correct?
NOW, i searched and found the method of pulling codes by pulling the computer off the wall of the car, and turning the selector switch...
I did all of the above, and turned the ignition to "on". HOWEVER, i am SOOOOOO confused. I am getting MANY MANY codes, and lots of them dont even make sence...(like 11 LONG codes, and 2 short).
Is there a method to reading the flashing light? Ie: does it shoot the same code twice? Is there a "in between codes" flash that happens before one code and after another??? PLEASE help me decifer all these flashes....
All i know, is the long ones are 10, and the shorts are 1.
thanks for any info... This is supposed to be soooo simple, but i'm going nuts...
thanks fellas

Um. Okay, first thing's first. Your '95 240 is not OBD-II. Only the '96 and above are. So forget about using any kind of OBD-II scan tool.
Secondly.. No, there is no 'in-between flash'. The way the ECU will read codes back to is is like this. If you've got 4 codes, 16, 22, 19 and 11, it'll read them like this: 16, 22, 19, 11, 16, 22, 19, 11, etc etc etc.
In order to decipher exactly how an s14 will flash, which I can't help you with, do some searching. This information has been covered before, I can assure you.

i did search...over and over....thats how i learned to check the obd1 code, and how i learned that even though the obd2 plug is there, its still an obd1.
I dont know why i'm reading these crazy ass codes though....i guess i'll try again tomorow...

ok.. just read the codes again....and boy am i scared!!!!
The codes i got(i double checked too)
are
12
32
52
54
61
63
65
67
92
112
113
121
128
The guy before swaped a ka with lesser miles into the car(95 chassis). I would think that with all the above codes, the car wouldn't even run! it runs ok, and pulls decently, but it does burn up a LOT of gas.
Is there a possibility that the ecu is bad, or is there actually a problem with EVERYTHING listed above???
thanks....

you are reading it wrong because most of those numbers aren't even codes.
12 MAF
32 EGR
52 not a code
54 not a code
61 not a code
63 not a code
65 cyl 4 misfire
67 cyl 2 misfire
92 not a code
112 "
113 "
121 "
128 "

i know...thats why i'm confused... I read it TWICE...both times with separate sheets of paper to write the codes down with, so i wouldn't be bias....
Both times i got the SAME numbers, and in that order... I think i'm reading it right because they go from smaller to larger.... Maybe my comp is fried??? I just reset it, we'll see what happens from here.

Oh wait. To hell with trying to pull codes from the ECU.
You say the previous owner swapped in a low-mileage KA. Okay, was he a noob about it? What does the ECU say? Try to identify the ECU and make sure it's even the correct one for the engine the previous owner has in.
And on top of all that, what is the car doing that's problematic? What crappy symptoms are you getting? Low idle, high idle, hesitation off the line, what? Let's see if we can figure out what's up with the car without the assistance of the turd-dog ECU.

THANK YOU s13gearhead.....
Yes, it seems like the previous owner was a complete tool. What has stumped me, is the fact the car runs well with EXCEPTION of poor gas mileage. Idles fine, smooth powerband, revs till it should, etc. etc.
I reset the ecu, and its had no cel since(drove for 20 min. or so). Hopefully it stays that way, but i'm not holding my breath.... ANy other suggestions? Thanks again for your time.....
oh, and i'll check the ecu when i get it back form the upholstry shop tomorrow.

Yeah, let's identify your ECU. There should be a stick on it with two letters right next to each other. CA, HU, etc, etc... find those numbers and look undernearth them. You'll find a grouping of letters and numbers in this format: A18-E27-G49. Look at your ECU and tell me what it says, or just use what you've written down to search in Zilvia for 'JWT ECU ID' or something of that nature. There's a PDF file floating around here that's got all the Nissan ECU's on it.
Once we know that it'll help me ask you where else to look =)
