I bought some custom Blitz Piping for my GReddy intake manifold, well it came with a HKS SSQV on the "cold-pipe" side. Is it normal for an SR to run a BOV on the "cold-pipe" section? My turbo is getting compressor surge and I cannot figure it out, the BOV is not coming on and it's been adjusted tightly and loosely.

you got a vacum line coming from behind the throttle body hooked up to it right? Ive heard having the bov on the coldpipe has its benefits, but slightly. Air can be released right before the throttlebody, should have a little faster response that way, instead of the air being stuck in the plumbing.
um.. s13 sr20det has bov on the hot pipe section. s14/s15 sr20det has bov on cold pipe section.
it doesn't mater where you put it, on the pipes, intercooler, your forhead.
are you sure you're getting surge? maybe it just sounds like it? i used to think i was but it's just the way the dual valve on the hks works.

mine is on the hot side but i actually think it makes more sense to have it closer to the throttle body. so the charged air doesnt have to travel so far back through the piping.

I definitely have vacuum going to it, I have it directly under the GReddy intake manifold, I pulled the hose and theres good "suckage".
I know it's compressor surge because the HKS SSQV has a pretty distinct sound when blowing off, plus at idle...I'll rev and put my ear to the intake filter and the turbo is surging out of it...fluttering.
I cannot figure it out, perhaps a faulty one? The spring has tension, I pulled the SSQV and checked it over, it seems good.

I wouldnt recommend having it on the cold side. Think bout it. Pressure on the pipe has to build up for it to blow off. Pressure begins from the turbo when the throttle plate closes. In my head, the further the BOV is from the turbo, the longer time there will be compression surge on the turbo.
the hks ssqv makes it's sound at under boost. but like at idle and small revs, it will open up and make no sound. you can test it by reving it and putting your hand infront of the valve, air will blow out. Mine makes the fluttering sound, but it's not compression surge, it's the dual valve flapping under low boost. test it out yourself.
