Ok so its been raining up here in norcal for the past2 days. I was driving when i spun the tires and noticed something odd. as my tires were spinning (no traction) my shifter started wobbling alot from side to side and there was a knocking sound. It didn't sound too good and i'm curious as to why it is doing that. if i spin the tires and hold the shifter in place i get no knock. the strange thing is that it feels as if the knock is below me. anyone know what i shouild do?

Check your mount. The rubber may be old and have to much flex in it.

Just be quiet and leave the thread. You haven't a clue what you're talking about.
Get a new transmission mount bushing. Nismo, Kazama, whatever.
You probably ripped your old bushing a new asshole (which isn't surprising, given its age.)

Excuse me?
Myself and a few others have had this problem.
Just take a moment to think about it. If your pilot bushing is fucked, what happens with the input shaft? and that shakin around in turn will move your trans internally and will cause your shifter to wobble, which in turn will disrupt your drivetrain, and if the sound is coming from underneath you, I'm pretty damn sure it's this.
Mine felt pretty damn violent, and made quite a loud knocking sound eventhough I have a peak performance pro urethane bushing on my transmission.

Hahah, word. QFT.
Yeah bro. Your transmission mount is fragged. The only thing that'll cause the shifter to wobble around while you're driving is an unsupported tail shaft - and that is only possible if the tranny mount is no longer doing it's job. It's happened to me a few times. Really easy to fix. Get the new transmission mount (Just the rubber, you don't need a new crossmember), jack up the front of the car, slide under there and support the transmission with a jack while you replace the bushing. Done and done.

What's more likely though?
That his pilot bushing magically went out to the point it would cause that much vibration, or that in his tire-spinning antics, his old-ass bushing got ripped to shreds?
I've had bad pilot bushings before (and I'm talking to the point where there was just 2 half-moons of metal in there) and never had the trans shake like you describe. I've had a loud buzzing and nasty metal rubbing sound, but no violent shaking.

I just meant, if it's not the transmission bushing, I'm betting it's the pilot bushing since this has happened a few times with transmissions from older swaps.
