Why would you want other's opinions on this when only YOU are going to be driving it. Just drive it around for a couple days to see if you can stand it cause no one's opinion matters when they wont be driving your car.

Matt, you're wrong. He probably wants to know the advantages of adding the power steering to his car.
Well... Advantages:
Turn easier
Better handling
That's all I can think of.
Disadvantages (of adding power steering):
Car won't feel as fast (due to another pulley and parasitic losses)
And your rack and pinion is power assisted. It was made to have a pump on it. You can, however, get a non power-assisted rack and pinion. It won't be as hard to turn, and you will still gain (or keep, in this instance) the increase in revability and power.
My friend with a 405hp 402ci bb chevy chevelle ss gained 28 horsepower by removing his power steering. And just think.. his engine is still a baby.

The power steering for me made a HUGE difference. It is a lot easier to drive (and slide)

Damnit I didnt think of the power benefiets I just thought about how you would just havbe to turn the steeering wheel a tad harder(maybe).

Sorry for not thoroughly thinking of the power benefiets.

Just how much harder is it to drive w/ out power steering?? I already find my '93 240 a lot heavier than most other cars I've driven, except maybe for a '95 328i which has surprisingly heavy steering. The 240's probably still heavier than that though.

Have you ever driven a Fiero? Or any other non-power steering car. They handle well when moving, but to turn from a stop, or make a U-turn, it will be a serious PITA. Other than that... my friend's Chevelle... he said he wouldn't go back to power steering after he found out how much power it was sucking. And that he'd "rather go faster than not grunt a few times a day."

power steering is certainly useful (as long as the power-assist isn't OVERLY "assisting" and making the steering seem numb) - especially at low speeds (parking, etc) and also when it comes to making very abrupt corrections at high speeds.

on the highway i doubt you'd notice a big difference... so i suppose it depends on how you plan to use the car. personally, if you can get the parts for 1-200 bucks, i'd go for it.
