hey this is my first post. I drive a 91 240sx FB and i jus recently bought another tranny (from a pick n pull) because the reverse on the old one went out. i unstalled the tranny and realized theres a difference between the transmissions. the 92 has an extra sensor and a bell housing. . i think theyre compatible, but im just double checking. and if ne1 knos wut the sensors are for.. can u let me know?? Thanks!
also the housing on one of the ends is different..

The one with the hole in the bellhousing is from an S14.
It'll work fine.

Just for refrence. That hole on the bell housing was for the crank angle sensor for OBD2 s14's. The location of the crank angle sensor on s13 OBD1 engine s13's is in the distributor.

Close. S13s don't have a crank angle sensor. They have a cam position sensor, located in the distributor, just like the S14.

My FSM says CRANKSHAFT position sensor or otherwise known as the (CKPS). It's found on page EF&EC-10 of the FSM 91-94KA24de's.
The reason why it is a CKPS and not a CPS (CAM position sensor), is because the system does not change the fuel cycle dependant of it's cam position, it's fuel cycle is dependant of the position of cylinder 1 there for it is a CKPS.....
You can shift cams on the KA and it won't change the fuel cycle or ignition (TP), only the position of the crank does that.....
CKPS is also found on OBD 2 along with the CRANK ANGLE sensor. KA OBD2 engines can run without the CRANK angle sensor since they are really only used to match consistency, although it will make the engine run rich.

Nope. Straight out of the 95, 96, 97, and 98 FSM : "The crankshaft position sensor is only used for the onboard diagnostics of misfire and is not used for engine operation". Any S14, OBD-I or OBD-II, will run perfect with or without the CPS. I pull them off of every engine I put in and sell them to people who *think* they need it. Only negative effect you'll get is a CEL. There's nothing else you'll notice without it, definitely not a rich condition.

Only misfire ehh. No codes with the removal of the Crank Angle sensor on 95-98models? I thought it was typical of Nissan to richen the A/F ratios for safety, to prevent leaness or detonation on all OBD systems. (Well atleast for California model ecus.)

I just typed above: "Only negative effect you'll get is a CEL." That means it WILL throw a code. I don't where you read that it doesn't, I didn't say it.
The A/Fs are adjusted by the input from the MAF, O2, and CMPS, not the CPS. And again, the 95 models are OBD-I but still use the CPS, but only for misfire diagnosis. If you were correct then all models would use a CPS in the same manner. They don't.

That was my point. I don't know how FED issued ecu's work exactly, I only deal with california models. When ever a cel, check engine light is displayed the On Board Diagnostics richens the mixture to prevent detonation and leaness on california models you don't pass smog, I know of this issue and have delt with it numerous times with smog techs. Being that you are from Atlanta you probably have FED issued ecu's which don't richen the tune when the CEL, check engine light is active.
I am also looking for a FED ecu for my biki rom since there are so many conflictions with the cali model OBD's.
