well......it's not as nice as the track i was at last weekend.....but it's track time nonetheless. the orginization that hosted the event was the biggest bush league operation ever, i probably won't go back. but in summary.......me and my friend that went beat every other NA 4cyl in attendence (except a heavily modified ITR). my friend beat me by .02 secs with a fairly stock 2.5RS. my car should be capable of beating him by .5-1 second, but he's a far better driver than i am. some of the cars we beat that we had no business coming anywhere close to were a modified 3rd gen RX7, BMW 328, supercharged GTI, turbo GSR, SR equipped 240, S2000 and a couple others. the guy in the turbo GSR was a giant fag, you could tell he was a drag "racer" the second he pulled up. his actions consisted of such stupidities as blasting his queer music while driving the track. when he asked me what was smoking on his car i said "maybe it's your amps." basically everybody there were people that couldn't make it in SCCA, MCSCC, NASA, or any other decent org. but either way, it was fun. especially when me and my friends show up and walk all over these rich kids with expensive cars and the various drag racer douchebags.
once again, i'd post pics, but i still don't have the software for my camera.
EDIT: i had 3 people ask me if i "drifted," you guys can imagine the response i gave. there was a "drift" presentation during lunch that consisted of AE86 or whatever the hell those things are spinning around in a circle, wow. the event was hosted by AARRF, so i advise MN and other midwest people to avoid these guys if you can.
Sounds pretty lame, but hey its track time!
The driving part was fun atleast.
You have your new pads on for this event?
AARRF, LOL

yeah, i had the pads on, they seemed to hold up pretty well. and they bite a bit better than stock. though i think the fluid might have been boiling towards the end of the session, so i have some DOT4 in the garage waiting to be installed. to my surprise, there wasn't really any dusting either.

Well, at least what you lack in quality you are making up for with quantity! And here I am thinking I'm too good to run Summit Pt. two weekends in a row (one on the big track, one on the small). (actually, it is just too much wear on the disposable stuff to do four days of events in 1.5 weeks. big SP eats tires and little SP eats brakes).
Make sure you take a look at those Hawk pads regularly! They will disappear fast on a track!
BTW: I thought you might like this Travis - I think I have my gf sold on getting a Miata!! Nothing like a nice drive in the country (incl. a nice mountain pass) and seeing those things everywhere to get her going! I can hear it now... "How come when you take my car out every Sunday in the spring through fall it takes 4 hours to go to the car wash?" As I get points in BStock...

damn you... even if you are there with a bunch of lame asses, it's still LOTS of fun to beat the crap out of them <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
(comming from the soon to be newb who will be getting the crap beat out of him.)

Cool, I just found out that my next time at the track will be the 27th of july... it's a ways off, but it is coming. I think I may find some way to change the suspension before then, my springs a shot, and I need a rear sway or to pull of the front one... gotta fix this understeer problem.. but I can't wait. I am glad that more and more of us seem to be getting out to the track, I hope I can make it a regular occurance.
Way Cool, Travis!
I was at Nelson Ledges over the weekend at a Porsche Club event. I was being evaluated to be an instructor (I passed). It was cool I didn't have any students to ride with, they had me in classroom and help out with whatever needed done. Great group of guys. Lot's of nice cars too.
Things I learned:
1. My car is waaay to stiff for Nelson's bumpy pavement. The car would bounce about 2-3 feet in any given direction in some areas of the track.
2. Take a shit AT HOME before you go there. The shitter's are undescriably disgusting.
3. Don't stay up past midnight watching the Tyson fight and drinking beer during a driving school weekend. I'm still asleep today.
Next event is possibly VIR on the 22nd. Anyone know how far that is from Akron/Cleveland Ohio?? I am contemplating going but the tow may be a bitch. Anyone?

Hehe, I think some people need to realize how serious they should be taking a track weekend. At least now they know what's up after being schooled by some near stock "slow" cars. Maybe you'll create a new trend of people who learn to drive better instead of making the car louder. Maybe not. I'm still surprised they were allowed to run with that much gear still in the car. Tech made me reinstall the cover for my + battery post, which I had planned on anyway, just hadn't gottne to before I went through. The electrical tape wasn't enough. I can't imagine what they would have told me had I pulled up with a couple amps and a sub box still in my truck.
In any case, I was at the track too. Blackhawk to watch the W2W racng yesterday. Looked like a lot of fun, especially the bumper car race, whoops, I mean spec miatas. I can't wait to get out there. I'm hoping the scheduling will all work out so I can run in the autocross later in June (22 I think) and have my new suspension fully installed.

the day was worth it, don't get me wrong. with as tight a course as it was, it taught me how important being smooth is, and further emphasized the importance of driver skill over car capability. and yes, things like allowing queers to blast their music while running is one of the reasons i won't go back. tech inspection is a joke......you check off everything yourself, then they give a quick look over. then next an "instructor" takes you for a ride around the track in your car, for the people that hadn't been there before. i was strongly opposed to this. and once i pointed out that i had more on track experience than the so called "instructor" this step was waived for me, and having a faster time than him was icing on the cake. i'm not trying to say i'm the greatest driver in the world, but in this crowd of rejects i looked like one of the shumachers.
steve - you better make it out to blackhawk on the 22nd, that might be the only time i make it out there this year. specmiata race had a lot of contact huh? they better not do that to my broke ass next year. how many miata's were there?

Not sure of exact numbers, but 10 sounds reasonable and maybe even conservative. Two lost their rear bumpers, and one left some tire on the passenger side of the 510. They really do look like a blast and really make me second guess if I should be pouring money into the 240 to race it instead of saving up for a SM. I guess I have to look at it as I only have room for one, and the 240 is the best of everything. RWD, big trunk, back seat, good handling, decent power. The miata is a lot of sacrifices for a street/race car.
