Ok...so im bored so i thought it would be interesting to see what everyones response would be. How much would you be willing to spend on a permit or special lisence that allowed you to drive your car's with all the illegal goodies under the hood? Im talking Sr's, KA-T's, RB's, and even the little stuff like non-carb legal headers etc. Now i realize that some of you are fortunate to live in a place where cops dont care what you have under your hood and you don't have to worry about emissions. Just pretend that your state is just as :ghey: as California.

Since is started the thread i will go first....

I'd probably pay up to $2000.

so in a sense this is a "how much do you love your car" question in that the more you pay the more u love ur car, i love my car this much

in a since, yes...but what im trying to see is how much people would pay to drive there car's legally. i know there are people that absolutly love their cars but might not pay that much to drive it legally and would rather risk it.

Well after a certain number of failing emissions tests you can just pay to have it ignored. Its around 900 bucks but I dont know how long it lasts

your very tiny. :keke:

I think this would be a bad idea. Just like granting illegal aliens amnesty. No special treatment for anybody we are all the same.

I say buy a 510. Smog exempt baby. haha.

But I do think that it would be better to have someone pay to slide the visual legaly. But not the sniffer.

Move to NC, where every car 95 and back is inspected by:
"car runs?"
"start it"
"headlights work?"
"lemme look at the tires"
"toot the horn"
"signals?"
"winshield wipers? .... okay, I will spray you down with windex, then tun on the wipers"
"$30.00, your sticker is coming off the machine now"

... sometimes I love living in this state.

"Please make check out to DMV for $35 and send in included envelope"
1wk later the sticker comes in the mail.

What's this inspection stuff you speak of?

Exhaust- Legal.
Header- Legal.
Intake- Legal.
ECU- Illegal.
Emissions- Legal.
No horn button- Questionable.

I would pay nothing and just pass emissions and run legal parts. If I get pulled over, I show him/her what's under the hood and all he/she can do is grumble. That said, I'm all for the repeal of any laws which make illegal a car that has shown it can pass the smog regulations for its year.

We don't need much horsepower to play with the big dogs on tight tracks anyway.

Edit to amend my stance to 2009 beliefs-
I would pay nothing and expect to run whatever I want. I pay taxes to cover my road use and whatever green bullshit the government wants to squeeze out of me. Driving isn't a privilege at this point in time, it's a goddamn right. They lost the privilege fight when they increased the taxes to cover road use.

Thats so :ghey: that you would have to pay to have stuff legal. I hate all these restrictions on a "free country" . I am extremely glad I don't live in a smog controled area and the cops are very laid back when it comes to illegal mods for the most part.

pay to have my car deemed legal... maybe like 500-600..

1000 to 2000! just to make your car legal to drive? i guess i rather buy another car or deal with getting sent to ref for that much..

since I'm going to bite the bullet and swap in a SR this month I'd say the most I'd ever pay is $1,500 to make it legal until then I'll just have to drive like a old 80 year old lady from now on to avoid attention. hah

sticker? what sticker, we dont need anything like that. :keke:

we dont even have to have the car present for registration or anything.

no sticker, no inspection, no emissions, no NOTHING. doesnt matter what year your car is. if you have license plates you are good to go

BustedS13

zero dollars

because all that shit is already legal in my state
except removing your cats. but if you gut a cat, or put a little shell on your test pipe, or just run a test pipe, nobody will ever know, and you will never be fined, because no cop is going to bother to get on the ground and check

OHHH, yea we have the one with the month/year.

i thought you meant one of those weird window stickers that a lot of states make you have.

Considering it'll cost about a grand to get the car out of the impound lot (maybe more or less, I don't know, I'm from PA) I'd say it'd be worth about a grand, but it'd be easier to make monthly payments or have a special plate or something.

C. Senor

i'd say about a grand as well. then i would switch to a turbo motor. stupid cali and its damn laws.

Lulz, I made a thread about something like this back when I cared about stuff & people. Some didn't take too kindly to it because I'm not from California.

Found it.

DOT said you could only cert the car as a whole not just the engine. There was no way they were going to cert a JDM engine in a USDM chassis.

I still think smog only is the fair way to inspect. Who cares what's under the hood as long as the tail pipe puts out roses. OBDII plug in only is stupid cause you can be polluting like crazy and the ecu won't notice.

depends on what I have. If I go with my s14 plan I have now and have an $9000 rb25 under my hood, yes I would pay 1500 to make it fully legal. But if I just have a 3k Ka-T I wouldn't want to pay half the price of what it cost to get it boosted.

you got it to easy

It got easier since I posted that... The price went down to only $9.10, then they changed the rules again in October, where I don't even have a windshield sticker anymore, it is all tied to the license plate.

I'm from oklahoma and as long as your not running open headers on your car your not going to get messed with, even then they tell you to get them fixed. No inspection, no ref, nada. I have never been asked about mods. :fawkd::mepoke:
