walbro 255 assembly "retainer" HELP

trying to assemble my 255 and i cant get the retainer on the post that connects the sock to the fuel pump
any suggestion on how to get it on there?

use a small socket; 4mm or 3mm to push it down, it's very hard to do with your fingers.
