So I bought an OEM weatherstripping for my S13's manual sunroof glass a few years ago, and just gotten around to putting it on now cause the "newer" sunroof weatherstripping started to go to crap too.

Spent an hour or so shanking the old stripping off of the glass cause it was hard and dry and stuck onto the glass real good, but nonetheless, I got all the old stuff off and cleaned the glass real good.

Then came time for test fitting the weatherstripping on the glass.

OOPS!

It's too big!

And it's not staying on well because it's too big. So I go to Autozone and bought a tube of Permatex glass/window sealant for the weatherstripping, thinking it would help hold it in place.

Whoa the fit is even worse now that it's sticking a little better!

WTF?

Why is the OEM stripping so friggin huge? I thought I'd have to fight with it a little bit and had to stretch it a little to get the stripping on so that it would fit well, but it is not fitting well.

Did anyone run into this same problem before?

Oh, just for thanks for reading my thread, here's the part number for the weatherstripping in question:

73872-01M05

It is $45.64 from www.nismoparts.com + $8.95 UPS ground shipping.

are you sure about that part number? according to carfiche.com, it looks like it should be 91610E or 73630, the picture is a little indistinct.

I figured it out.

I put the weatherstripping around the sunroof glass, in kinda a "push the bubbles out of a sticker" type technique (excuse my way of explaining, kinda hard to explain). I would put the stripping on the glass, then push it out to make it fit well, and ended up with like 1" to 2" of slack.

So then my gf and I just kinda pushed the stripping here and there, while keeping as much of it on the glass as possible, and at my frustration I pulled it back off. Like 10 to 15 min later I put it back on without using the "pushing" technique, but instead just put the rubber on the glass, and low and behold, it fit!!!

So after test fitting it, we just put the Permatex glass sealant on the stripping and stuck it on the glass, while using some clothes pins to hold the corners on.

After a few hours (the sealant is supposed to dry in 1 hour, but cures in 24 hours), I went to check on it, and it looked good. Checked to make sure the stripping is stuck onto the glass via the sealant, and it seemed like it worked well.

Tonight I will go back and double check everything and put it on the car and make a final post about it.

Ok, so I finally got around to check the stripping, and there was only 1 little area where I didn't put enough sealant on it (or none at all) and so it didn't seal and cure onto the glass, ergo the stripping can be pulled away from the glass.

So I put a little more sealant in that area, and now I gotta wait another 24 hours for it to cure before I put it on the car.

Once it's on, I will spray water on to it to make sure it's sealing and everything's gravy. Then comes the fitting issue.

So I'll post back tomorrow about this.

I know this thread is way old but I just wanted to point out something. I purchased a new rubber piece from my local dealer a few months ago. It was to big like explained above. I cut about 2 inches from it to make it fit. I have never been satisfied with it thou. So I got a new one using the part number above from an online parts place. The new one fit like it was suppose to. I pushed it on the glass and there was no slack or anything. So in my experience, there are different types, one that fits and one that does not. This is the part number that worked for me.
