let me know what everyone thinks. and no i am not going back to a 240, so let it go. and yes those are some ugly cars. no drifting involved. just a DD to pass the time inbetween jobs.

Get a Honda, you will be less inclined to spend unecessary money on them and they will definitly make a good daily. Old BMW, subaru, saab(wtf), = problems and hard to find/expensive parts.

I also would say get the civic... economical and parts aren't as expensive as the bmw's...

Get a Civic hatch or something alone those lines. Everything is cheap for them and if it's only temporary it shouldn't be too hard to live with.

I loved my Saab 9000 turbo. However, repairs are expensive, even if you do it yourself.
Same thing with the other cars listed.
Get the EK.

for some reason, I've noticed that Californians are biased against Saabs.

I got an EK and its perfect for DD. If you can keep yourself below 75mph on the freeways (which of course is terribly hard with all the power and torque honda's have) then you could probably pull 40mpg. And parts are probably more plentiful and easy to find than 240 parts. A cressy would be cool but you might get tempted to get a little dori dori with it. The most you could really do with a stock EK is take on and off ramps really fast, then accelerate away like a stiff breeze.

+1 for the honda

05-11-2006, 10:55 PM
well ther is a problem with the honda.... i wasn't looking where it was located at.....a 3 hour trip one way. but on the other hand i have founf a couple of auto 88-89 preludes for about 1000 that are alot closer and have rebuilt engines within 9K of the currrent (almost 200K on both) mileage. that or a couple of 1993 civics turned up with 150K plus onthem so i am considering those too. but i am going to put off buying onw for a few more days. mopefully my RB240 will sellin the man time and i can get some closure on that. as well as a bit more cash.

05-11-2006, 11:07 PM
I dont really like those preludes at all. a 93 ish civic will do you good until you get a job and/or sell the RB car.

Tenchuu
05-11-2006, 11:17 PM
yeah but if i get a years driveing out of 1500 with decent mileage....... and my friends prelude was funner than a civiv. maby i should just look for a 1991 accord or something.

I wouldn't keep the stock engine in the civok or the gheyludes.

............ cause then i couldn't feel the 12lbs of VTEC kick in....... LOL

why would you want to buy on old FWD car as a DD and do a motor swap? isn't that kind of against the daily driver principal?

You're talking about 15yr old cars. Motors are pas their prime. Drop a nice newer 1.8 LS motor in there and be happy.

CaoBoY
05-12-2006, 01:48 AM
yeah, and hte LS motor doesnt use premium like the gaydeemm gizzerrr or hype R or Si motors.

I had a B18B in my 95 civic hatch. it has no AC, no power steering and very reliable. gets 29 mpg consistently but loud......

If you want a daily drive, i think maybe you should not have too much plan for it?

like everyone else i think you should get the honda. like everyone said hondas a cheap to maintain, have great build quality, and are fun to drive. ive been looking for a eg civic hatch myself to use as a daily driver, but like 240's and hachi's theyre all rediculously priced, especially in the bay.

in fact it is easier just get a 94+ integra. it just like a EG except 300lb heavier yet 20% ridger. It also comes with a more friendly 1.8L DOHC motor and bigger front brake and 4 wheel disc brakes.

so if you decide to buy a EG for $3000, might not just buy a integra for $4000

altho the integra would go over my 3000 limit. i am not spending over that. if i was to spwnd over that i might have as well went and gout my old 240

What's wrong with keeping the 240.. and putting the 3k into parts to make your car more efficient or more daily drivable? Or, selling your car, using that money plus 3k for a new one. I musta missed something.
But the worst_thing_ever is to sell one car, a car that you know every aspect and issue of, and buy another low-budget car that has a new set of issues.. that you know nothing about.
I sold my 240 and bought a 2003 car because if you're leaving one car, you need to move up. Not sideways. Getting a $3k beater for a DD instead or replacing your current beater is a sideways move, imo.

well i could have keet the 240 and pay the abou 3k for repairs and shipping the car to me...
and kept the 5000 on the vehicle loan
and the 2000 loan on the RB
and the 1500 crdedit card for the cooling system and other troubleshooting items

debt=8500... more auctually those just he big things. plus be out another 3000

total loss 11500+

and i am takeing a break inbetween jobs then pan on going back to school so jobs are going to be scetchey until my didibility check comes in in about 7 months.

or i sell. pay off all that bebt and use the 3K that i would have used on the 240 to but a new car..... perferibly somehting around 1500 and live off the rest plus a couple of paychecks. so it doesn't seem like too mutch of a choice to me. i was going to use that 3K to pay off the 2000 loan and the credit card. but the best laid plans..... plus the fact that i am updies down over 23K into that car.... i could have got an STI or GTO that would be running great and i would like better, so i am cutting my losses and running from it.... screaming.

that is why i am looking for a beater and haveing to get the 240 sold.

On a couple of the preludes i am looking at.... one has a rebuilt motor 9K ago, with 211K miles on it.
the other has a rebuilt top end with a new water pump and timeing belt just a few hundred miles ago and has 184K miles on it...... wondering witch would be better.... can't argue with $1000 cars...

or one with 220K miles with new exhaust , front brakes, rear brakes, timing belt, water pump, drive belts, starter, clutch & front axles. basiclly in dire need of a new engine i think

S14DB basically you are thinking just to gt somehting like this:

subaru impreza 93' fwd 1.8L non-turbo
i know someone selling theirs for $2000 obo
Clean title with carfax (no history of accidents)
133k miles, very nice interior, completely stock, runs very good.

$700 for an AWD swap and motors/trannys are interchangeable.
just a thought.

Dude, that has a Carburetor on it.

I'm talking old car. Newer generation of motor. Like dropping a B18B1 in that car.
