I just wanted to let everyone know about my project in the works. This is going to be a street and track car (autox, road race, and some drift). I've already stripped the entire interior out and most of the wiring harness. I still have to get that crappy insulation out. Seam welding to come soon. A general overview of my plan is to swap in a DE, get a good set of coilovers and some other suspension stuff, do a VE head swap, and then go all out on suspension and chassis stiffness. LOTS more pics will be up as soon as I can load them to my photobucket.

I'd suggest you add ALOT of technical information, unless you want me to lock this and direct you to the Picture Thread.

The front end after

Alright ThatGuy, thats cool. As you can see, I am removing the entire wiring harness from the car, and will be relocating the fuseboxes to the interior (write-up coming). I'm soon to take a wire brush to all of the sound insulation that I can't get with dry ice. As I was removing the wiring harness, I labelled everything with masking tape and a marker, and uneeded wires will be stripped out of the harness. There are zip-ties and clips all over the place, which I just cut out, since I'm relocating the wiring harness. There are also tons of connections next to the fuseboxes, and the wiring harness goes through both inner and outer fenders.
On the front end, there are like 20 bolts for each fender I swear. Two are in the door hinge area, which you can get with a universal joint and 10mm socket. The others you need long extensions for as they are in the joint between the fender and front bumper, again 10mm. One bolt, the most pain in the but, is on this triangular brace between the bumper and the fender, so you need to take a small 10mm wrench (a socket won't fit in my experience) and cram your arm up in the fenderwell (it's easier if all the other bolts are off first) and remove that. then the bumper is just secured with 4 10mm bolts on the front bumper support.
Please ask questions if you have them!

dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
ive found that build threads are best when the build is done and you can just lay it out at once
post as you build doesnt work out as well

Yeah, I'll add more, I swear, I'm trying to document everything, and as I said, ask any questions you have!

Your putting in a KA and then swapping a VE head on it? I though the VE's head only bolted on to other SR blocks. Am I missing something here?

:werd:
I've found that to be the case also... But if your dedicating a lot of time and doing installments with relatively close proximity to eachother it could work. Anyway, build sounds nice, good luck...

Maybe he means an NA sr (DE) with a ve head. Are we talkin about an sr20 or sr16 ve head? Mine as well do itb too since the TB is gonna be pointing at the firewall.

fender screws:
2 behind front edge of door
2 on underbody seam behind wheel
3 along top of fender (4 on passenger side due to wiper reservoir neck)
5 between fender and front bumper
1 behind bumper that i've never successfully removed without remving the bumper
possibly one bolted to brace right before front wheel.
the five bolts between the fender and bumper are especially a pain in the ass when you have an smic

Thanks, and yes, I'm talking about an SR20DE with a VE head on it. It will either be custom intake or ITB's. Probable going to be a 20VE head with 16VE cams (more power). I"m also going to foam the entire chassis after I seam weld it. Will be doing a write-up about that too.

Hopefully I can get the various things done in a short amount of time, so I don't have to drag it on for forever, thanks for the tip. If the moderators close the thread, I'll do that and include all my technical stuff right away.

definitely tell us how the foaming goes. I seriously want to foam the frame rails, the boxed in section over the front wheels, and possibly the door sills, but I want to see someone else do it first  What weight foam are you planning on using?

I'm gonna get the stiffest stuff I can. For me there's no such thing as too much chassis stiffness. Gonna get some more done this week, updates with tech over the weekend.

Looks like fun. Keep us updated. A project like that would take me forever, I barely have any free time. :(

I look forward to your foaming, I really want to try it, but I was waiting for somebody to take the plunge before me. Good luck, keep us posted..

So what's with the slip angle?
PoorMans180SX
05-12-2006, 10:31 AM
Well Slip angle is a certain type of flex in a tire. It's involved in all car racing. You'll notice if you turn your steering wheel when standing still, that your tires will turn a few degrees before the contact patch actually changes. On the track, this angle can be six to ten degrees. So even if your tires are turned a certain way, the slip angle can be what's actually steering your car.
By the way blackflag, your car is hot. I hope mine looks as good when it's done. I will be painting it white.

I know what slip angle is/means, I was asking you what this thread has to do with slip angle? Because so far, you just said you were going to do a VE head on a RWD SR20DE, and everything you've done so far is just taking everything off of the car and such, so... nothing to do with slip angle.
I clicked on this thread thinking someone had done something with their front suspension to achieve more slip angle during a drift or something innovative or something.

oh god, this thread sucks.
i should add pics of me stripping my FC. naturally, I won't add any tech, just pics of what a stripped chassis looks like, cause im sure that NOBODY has seen one of those.

SoSideways, it's impossible to modify your front suspension for more slip angle. Slip angle is a type of flex in tires. More steering lock, yes, more slip angle no.
Drunk Bastard, I'll be adding more tech as soon as I can get to work on the car again, which will be today. I was thinking ripping all the stuff out wasn't very techie so why tell everyone how to rip some interior parts out? I'll be getting all the wiring harness out of the car today, which will be a little more involved.
I'm also taking all the sound deadening out today with dry ice. I apologize for the slowness of my actions.

ugh this thread sucks. i could have done more technical stuff over the weekend. tearing apart a car is easy. kids stuff, takes a few hours. my entier chassis is empty now and i could do more w/ a writeup then this. pics of the day. post stuff up AFTER you've done it.
we see A LOT of talk at zilvia with NO action.

I have had enough... Post a new thread with information that makes people not wanna clutter up the thrtead with bullshit next time.
... and wait til you're done before you do it.
... and make sure that it is something that hasn't been done or covered.
... and include details of the foam, that seemed to be the only thing ground-breaking in this one.
