So, it will be released mid-November worldwide and there will be two versions coming out, a 20gb and a 60gb. The 20gb will be approx $500 and the 60gb at approx $600!!! They weren't kidding when they expected the price to be upwards of $600.

Sony is supposedly dropping the HDMI support that they so proudly flaunted in the face of Microsoft and the 360. The 20gb version supposedly will not support Memory Stick, SD, or Compact Flash memory, nor will it support WiFi connectivity. With all that in mind, is anyone still going to buy it?

I know I am! Why? Simply put, GTHD and MGS4. MGS4 alone is enough to convince. Don't believe me, watch the MGS4 trailer for yourself. It will not only knock your socks off, it will then proceed to peel your skin off, peel your flesh off, and then rock your feet bones as well as the bones of anyone in a 500 yard radius.

Funny, im watching G4 right now and theyre talking bout E3. I was never a big fan of Xbox so i didnt bother to even look at it. Funny thing was none of my hardcore Xbox Halo friends bought 360 either. Im still one of those people who would buy the PS3 to play game and that alone. this is just IMO...but

ugh... sony has dissapointed me. they dont have anything innovative and they just copied the motion tilt idea from the Nintendo Wii and the controller is exactly the same as it used to be except with designs which were obviously taken away from microsoft's and nintendo's respective systems.

what also dissapoints me is the packaging. the lower end and high end packages of PS3 are amazingly different compared to the packages of core and premium for the 360.

some of the stuff noted is the HDMI feature which is in the 600 but not in the 500.

whats also been copied is the Xbox live feature. almost everything in there online features is the same. nothing innovative and new to make me want one.

what also is a major dissapointment is the E3 demos. all the games dont look like they surpass the 360 (as sony claimed themsleves to be).

even reviewers say the new gran tourismo isnt up to expectations either. theres still jaggies and reused textures from GT4. (forza is better anyway.)




Either way, the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft 360 and World of Warcraft are the only good features of E3.

In response to a few points made...

HDMI has been dropped from the PS3 altogether.

While the tilt technology seems to be plaigarized, it's actually no where near as smart and capable as Nintendo's Wii-mote.

PS3 will be completely backwards compatible, all the way back to PS1.

Konami just showed a new trailer for MGS4, might be up on their site sometime tonight, if we're lucky. It's described as all new images, with lots of crazy new in-game technologies, further rocking your socks.

Square Enix will be releasing FFXIII. The game looks absolutely amazing! If you haven't seen the trailer, do so. There are only about 15 sec of FMV, and the rest is real-time. They will also be releasing the sequel, FFXIII Versus, at the same time.

I might hold off on buying a PS3 until '07, mainly because MGS4, GTHD, and FFXIII won't be coming out until then. Plus, I would be too involved with the Wii. That system is just f'in phenomenal. Nintendo released a new demo video for the Wii, and the gameplay looks just astounding. So many possibilities for so many different types of games. And, it'll give me time to save up for the PS3.

My hands get a bit cramped especially the thumbs cuz I gotta bend my thumb all the way down constantly just to press X about a couple thousand times. Playing for about 2+ hours I get mad sores, I dont press the buttons hard either. I am 5'10" so I aint tall or anything. Still ps1/ps2 controllers are very good. PS3 controller would be great too. SNES controllers are the best imo. Never had right hand thumb joint sores whatsoever.

I have read that it might not be 100% backwards compatible. For PS3 they are using software emulation for compatibility with PS2 and PS1 games. The PS2 actually had PS1 hardware in the system to run the PS1 games from thus PS1 games actually ran on PS1 hardware.

The PS2 hardware is notoriously complex and thus will be hard to emulate perfectly in software. So it would be hard for them to guarantee 100% backwards compatibility in software emulation.

The good news, however, is that since it is in software they should be able to update the emulation software to fix incompatibility issues that may arise.

The Metoid vids and previews I've been reading are driving me crazy! Think about this, to open some doors you have to motion the wii-mote forward and Samus's arm will move forward and into a slot in the door. You then have to twist your wrist to unlock it and then pull it back out to ope the door. Talk about immersive gamesplay. :naughty:

just got back from E3 and here are my impressions:

I tried just about everything i wanted to except for the Nintendo Wii, the wait was 2-3 hours. Will definitely hit the Nintendo Wii first thing in the morning tommorow. Hardly any booth babes around, and when there were some around it got too crowded. 50 Cent and Paris Hilton were there ....but the Mayor of Quahog was there! I challenged him to a shouting contest

PS3- BIG LETDOWN, granted all the games were less than %50 done, but every game that was playable offered nothing new or exciting. Graphics were surely beefed up, but the gameplay/experience of the playable games were garbage. Heavenly Sword/genji is just another KOEI hack and slash, Gran Turismo HD was a joke, Resistance was boring, F1 2007 looked/felt jerky and physics werent great, Madden 07 looked worse than Madden 06 for the 360. However Warhawk was pretty cool. The motion controller is not as bad as people make it out to be compared to the PS3 conference demo. The motion control felt precise and smooth, but it did take some time getting used to controlling the aircraft with no analog, just motion. I can honestly see this being used quite well in racing/flying games.

Xbox 360- AWESOME games coming out. I am finally convinced to pick one up. I had doubts with the first gen games, but the second gen games are EXCELLENT. Chrome Hounds, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Splinter Cell Double Agent are all awesome. The games arent entirely fresh and new, but the games being developed for the 360 are the games that were unplayable, unpopular, or just couldnt pull it off a few years ago, which is now purely enjoyable and satisfying, as well as immersive.

Nintendo Wii- will get to it tommorow. 2-3 hour wait today.

Nintendo DS- This years line up is STRONG, excellent games. Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! is getting a "sequel" by the name of Elite Beat Agents. Seriously everyone needs to play Ouendan!, easily the best game for the DS. Castelvania Portrait of Ruin is EXCELLENT. If you like Dawn of Sorrow, multiply that by 10 and mix in Castlevania: Bloodlines and you pretty much got the best CS game since SOTN. Megaman ZX is not to be passed up either.

PS2- Okami will probably be the Game of the Year for the PS2. the most gorgeous game (from the same team who did Viewtiful Joe), original gameplay, mesmerizing, and really fluid gameplay. God of War 2 is just more of the first part, but we all cant get enough of God of War. Kratos has a bunch of new killer moves. Guitar Hero 2 is ****ING AWESOME!!! Blows the first one out of the water. The ability to play lead, rhythm and bass adds an entirely new realm. Multiplayer Co-op now shares a streak, points, and star power so you MUST both play well

ok heres my short review on playing Wii games:

first off you'll notice how tiny and ergonomical the Wiimote and the nunchaku controller is. It feels very natural, all the buttons are reachable with just the thumb and/or trigger finger. second thing you'll notice is how short the cord is between the nunchaku and the Wiimote. Im not sure if the cord was adjustable or not, that was something i forgot to check.

Second, you'll notice that the Wii Demo videos show exaggerated movements. The people in the demos show them pointing the Wiimote all over the place, i.e. Red Steel demo shows a guy pointing in a far left corner of the tv which tells the game to point in the far left corner. In reality the sensor is "too" sensitive, meaning that you really dont move your entire hand to the far corners of the tv, but rather move in "small" movements. BUT developers have not yet confirmed of the adjustability of the sensitivity movement of the Wiimote. Hopefully thats one thing all developers need to adjust

Third, depending on what game you are playing it works extremely well or so-so. First game i played was Wii Sports (Tennis, Baseball, Golf) Tennis is highly entertaining, yet so simple. You really get in the mood to splice, lob, top spin, backhand, etc. The Wii sensor is really good at detecting on how you want to hit the ball. Warioware was the next game and oh man that game is pretty fun for people who have short attention spans. If you're familiar with any other Warioware games then you'll understand how the Wiimote fits perfectly for this game.

Metroid- Metroid felt great and is similar to the GC versions. The nunchaku has an analog joystick for movement and the Wiimote is the aiming/shooting/grappling. Button configuration was sorta confusing because thumb button on the Wiimote was used to shoot, instead of the trigger finger to shoot.

Madden- You'll have to motion to snap, hike, kick, stiff arm, and throw with the Wiimote and you use the nunchaku to move your player. When you snap the ball you have to select who you want to throw to with the d pad and make a throwing motion. The Wiimote will detect how hard your throw it and the outcome is either a lob or a bullet pass, pretty neat but the delay is noticeable and sometimes not expected. Playing defense was extremely a pain in the ass...
