So i get home from work yesterday and park my car in the driveway like I always do. Leave the windows down cause it's been kinda toasty in Napa recently. I'm sitting in my living room watching TV when I hear my car door open (really need to grease the hinge). I go out through the garage door to see this kid/guy, couldn't have been older than 17, running away from my car down the street hop into a 240SX and take off down the street. I go take a look in my car and everything is still there, money, wallet, stereo, cd's, and my FSM. (main things of value, and yes I know I'm stupid for leaving money and wallet in a car with the windows down, but I live in a good neighborhood of Napa and haven't had anything like this happen before). So I go back inside have the cops come out and do a report, just for shits and giggles.

After the cops left I get a call from my brother asking to pick him up. So I hop in the car and take off. Traffic really blows and it's getting toasty. I roll up the windows and turn on the AC. I go to adjust the center vents and the left one won't adjust. SO I actually look at it and notice that the vent bezzel is half off the dash and the vent is partially down in the dash. I know it wasn't like that when I left work cause I moved the vents cause hot air was coming through them.

And then it hits me and I'm like WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG!!! The kid broke into my car to steal my VENT BEZEL off the dash!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I get down to my brothers house, I take a closer look and you can see the marks that were left by the screwdriver prying under it!!!!!!! Do people really get so desperate that they have to steal something as pathetic as that?!

What the hell is going wrong when people break into your car to steal a plastic bezel!!!!! I mean come on now people!!

Sorry for the rant, but I just thought that I should share this experience of human stupidity with you all. ALso sorry if this was supposed to go in the off topic chat, but I was like hey it's a bout a 240 so why not!!

I never actually bought a 240. I just went around stealing pieces and running away until I could build my own 240 from scratch. Only took me 7 years. Luckily I started early enough to have it completed before the "240 scene" caught on...


Seriously though. That Sucks. I never leave my windows down. Too paranoid. I always wondered how people with vert's can just leave their car their wide open like. I wouldn't be able to do that if my life depended on it.

I would have chased him down but it took me a minute to realize what was going on. By the time I did I ran to the street and saw him get into a grey 240 just like mine and take off. The kid looked like (not to stereotype or anything) a skater punk. Long scraggly hair, stoner, look. The 240sx was completely stock, as far as I could tell. no rims no exhaust. I'll keep an eye out for him. My street isn't really mainstream so he I doubt they just drove by and were like, "Hey let's jack this guys shit!" Napa isn't really all that big and if I see him, well you know the saying, Hell hath no fury, like a man who's car was f***ed with!

yeah I know he wasn't trying for the stereo, cause it wasn't that big bezel that fits around the shifter. It was the small one that goes around the two air vents in the center of the dash!! That's why is it was so feaking screwie.

And call me crazy but I'm getting an alarm and possible onstar installed here quick. I remeber right after Fast Furious 1, that a bunch of modified imports started to go missing and well FF3 comes out next month so... yeah.

You won't catch my car with the windows down and unlocked unless I know it's at my house (not anymore of course..lol) in the driveway. If you could draw a straight line between my couch in my living room and the drive way, the car is parked only 7 feet away and I've had my car broken into, but that was when I lived in Vallejo. Since I moved to Napa 2 years ago I haven't had a problem with my crap getting messed with so i got a little to relaxed with it. Guess all good things have to go to an end.

I guess it just really surprised me that someone would even try for the bezel. lol. what ever.. I just have to do some research on different car alarms now.

The top portion of the clip on the left side is still intact but he broke the one on the bottem of that side. It sits about 3mms off from flush with the dash now. Probably something that only the owner (myself) or a real enthusiast would notice.

Broken tension rods are a hard find. I personally carry a breaker bar in my trunk at all times. The "breaker" part that describes the tool can actually be applied to all kinds of objects. A human's skull is included in the list.
