i am about to start the process of my s15 front and was wondering about hoodpins. do you guys think the hoodpins that have the braided line and pin would look good? i kind of like them, and wanted to see if anyone else had any input. otherwise i will just get the latch type like cusco or sparco.
any info would be appreciated
thanks in advance

Ive actually always liked the small locking ones myself. Alot simpler and cleaner. Buddy of mine had them on his 71 Chevelle.

i had those, and they were a bitch. i had a hell of a time closing my hood everytime, because if the key thing was in the exact right place, it would catch the groove it slid into under the hood or whatever, and wouldnt lock
hard to explain, but nonetheless, i hated them.
only thing i dug was the flushness, but they werent worth the hassle

Top Secret jacks up the price. Buy the Aero Catch pins elsewhere and save money. Here is their website. http://www.aerocatch.com/automotive-applications.html Require a larger hole be cut in the hood, but they are flush and look pretty sturdy. They are similar to what we use to hold panels closed on aircraft that travel over 300mph. :rawk:
Thanks to chmercer for introducing me to these pins.

my buddy had the locking ones on his old integra and they were a pain to adjust and to get them to lock..... id just get the simple sparco's but dayum, those aerocatch look sweet!!
btw, i think we need to get a gb on these aerocatch hood pins!!

wow.. i was going to say hoodpins look ugly and just use like a bungy type rope for your hood but those aerocatch look pretty flush with the hood.. hardly noticable that they're there. it would be a good compromise.

the locking ones are a pain if you daily drive you car in all types of weathers....if it only sees sun and a lil rain then your fine
id go with a set of sparcos theyll last you for a while

Not a big fan of drilling holes into my hood. But since its not my hood, i'd recommend that aero'pin latch "Thatguy" posted. It gives a clean look.

BTW, "Thatguy" do you have them on your car?

these are gangsta...
hood pins i would never run.. but these i would consider since its flush with the hood and doesnt stick out like a sore thumb

id just like to add that the hood locks are not a replacment for hood pins. they have a less engagment, the mechanism is crappy, and they have broken many times, sending hoods into windshields.

so noone thinks the braided line ones would look gnarly on s14.5?
chmercer
05-08-2006, 09:48 PM
why. you think you will loose track of the cotter pin if you dont have the tethers? looks is not part of the equation when dealing with saftey equipment.

well i would assume they would be safe too, its not like im considering a less safe alternative. if i was super concerned about looks, and disregarded safety, i wouldnt run pins at all.

i dont understand that site. whats the diff between lock flush and lock plus flush
its something like how the plus flush is for thicker panels that have a cut out for them already or something like that.

didn't you see that CHP training video posted in OT where the guy was like 'Sorry, I can't pop the hood, the hood release is busted". The cop just said, "That's fine, we'll just impound your car"
NemeGuero
05-09-2006, 03:27 PM
They can't impound without good reason, can they?. And just 'cuz they pulled me over doesn't suffice does it? I mean, I don't drive bad on the streets EVER.
But during a routine traffic stop, that question of "can you pop your hood" might come up.. this might eliminate the possibility? I mean.. I'd take 'em to court for impounding my shit without any proof of illegality.

I bet it'll work 60% of the time..
chmercer
05-09-2006, 05:24 PM
it dosent work, they can impound your car, no reason you shouldnt be able to open your hood
NemeGuero
05-09-2006, 05:48 PM
Weeeaakk... Well.. they'd probably impound it if they COULD pop the hood.. so.. yeah?

i dont get that crap.... why dont cops go after the rusted peices of shit and unsafe cars instead of going after us? we all know that tuner cars for the most part are 100 times safer then the old grama's beet up junk. that pisses me off when the po po pulls me over and says " hey, im just doing a routine stop" ..... total BS cause last summer i had the same officer pull me over twice in the same week! he was like " just making sure the car isnt stolen" what a bunch of crack!

Yah, I dunno..
I don't drive bad on the streets. In fact, I drive speed limits +/- 5%.. but nothing extreme. I don't rev high on the streets.. not even really above 3.5k rpms....
But so far, no harassment yet..

It is.
When I got pulled over for driving with only my driving lights on (no headlights... long story, basically i didnt click them all the way on and didnt notice cuase ht parkinglot was really bright. literally 30ft outta the parking garage i got pulled over... before i could even realize why...) the cop was more interested in trying to bust me for illegal mods, than answer my questions about why he pulled me over in the first place. Every time I came up Legal, he would spout out some BS about Milipitas having a Zero Tolerance policy for street racing/illegal vehicles... both of which I had no part in, but that didnt stop him from going over every inch of my car.
He said it was becuase my car is "heavily involved with the illegal street racing crowd"
