PICTURE THREAD, with that said, yah thats messed up, mines not that bad, but at any rate it does look silly. and as soon as i can get myself to spend thousands of dollars, im gonna get coils and various other gizmos.

damn i just realized im like the only person here without a sig haha.

yea i know there's a HUGE picture thread, just thought i'd do it seperately so if someone wanted to know 'if they searched' what type of ride height they'd be dealing with after an SR swap on stock suspension they can find this post.

also thought it was funny, it looks plain rediculous right now. researching coilovers now, hopefully it will not be like this too long

Hahaha. Can't the webmaster install or run a script that automatically moves pictures? Or a script that will ask the user if the picture is of their car or a car-related picture or just a picture and it automatically posts it in the proper area?

Good idea. I'll even write the php code for it.

WTF? You lose that much weight with the swap? nice.

I don't see why you can't start your'e own thread that has pictures, If it's something like "Hey, check this out", then yea It should go in the picture thread. But if it's something like "a discussion on suspension, chasis weight, etc.." then I don't see what's wrong with it, because the pic does help the author describe what he/she's getting at.
If the author were to omit the picture and simply describe the situation, everyone would be saying "post pics!" anyways

Just playin'. But leaving the jack in there for a ride height pic? Someone had to ask...

Friends S13 looks that bad with the CA18 in it. Drops the car off the jack and it doesn't go down.

so should we be looking for stock JDM suspension for cheap lowering?

no thats ghetto and your car will still be super high.

man, fuck the picture thread. that shit sucks. no discussion of pics, so totally worthless.

LOL! Thats pretty damn high, but i think i have you beat. My car used to be at a normal ride height, but after installing the SR it gained like 2" up front. This picture is with the SR fully functional so everything is under the hood.

Thanks for posting the pics of your car. I was getting worried that something was bent.

I guess this proves you should do suspension before engine swap.

S13Eye
05-05-2006, 01:11 PM
It also proves that its smart to reinstall the stock suspension so you have easy access to things underneath car. I'm not going to scrape my arms on concrete everytime i drop a wrench, when i can throw the stock struts on within 5min. Also its a lot easier to get a service jack underneath the subframe with the stock suspension.

How much does the SR weigh compared to the KA? I thought the SR weighed similar to the KA cause of the extra turbo parts it had... guess not??

mmdb
05-05-2006, 07:13 PM
^ yeap. I would think the turbo parts would bring it somewhere near the weight of the KA, but I wouldn't expect to see such a height increase. 240's are full of surprises.

05-05-2006, 09:07 PM
so whats the real weight of these 2 engines "ka vs sr'

mjjstang
05-05-2006, 09:15 PM
Apparently its 80 lbs difference. comparing block to block. and I imagine since only the bellhousings are differnt, that the difference with trannys is little to nothing.

OJmobileII
05-05-2006, 09:54 PM
i've heard it is approximately 100lbs difference stock fully dressed long block.

my front end was the same way. drove it for a week b/c i didnt have time to put in my coilovers. u get some crazy looks if u get on it hard. people look at u like ur doing a wheel stand.

i think the pic thread should be used more for "glamour" shots. if u have a question or useful info for the community, a pic only helps everyone better understand.

What's really funny is the sr/s13 front on stock suspension...

that thread should only be for a single picture of your car. I HATE that we can't post pictures and discuss them in seperate threads. Nobody (including me) discusses there buildups anymore because of that.

+1...which is why i started this one...come on 36+ pages who wants to search that shit

as for the other post about buying suspension before doing an SR swap...i couldn't agree with you more but i wanted to have my initial investment in the motor be the biggest and first payment...then over the month or two it's taken to prep and swap i've been saving up for suspension.

believe me, i will not be driving around with the stock suspension like it is now...i'll be purchasing coilovers within a week or two (about the time it'll take to get to cranking the motor)

vote for new section? buildups section for pics and stuff.. should be organized so the threads title's have to be "username's buildup/progress/whatever" and each person should only be allowed to start/have 1 thread in that section

To those people bitching about the Picture Thread:

We never stopped allowing build up threads. What we stopped allowing was a thread everytime someone got new wheels, or installed a new shift knob. If you actually write up a good build-up report on your vehicle and include pictures, it will not get locked for the Picture Thread. However if the title of your thread is "Just got a new Muffler Bearing" and then you include a dozen pictures of your car with no useful information, it will get locked. The reason we went to the current lay out for the picture thread is because the last pic thread got cluttered with idiots fighting and posting the same damn questions over and over again. We can't make everybody happy with everything on Zilvia.net. There are some things you are just going to have to deal with. The Picture Thread is one of them.

Seriously, I wanted to post pics of my new wheel swap over and my soon to be prepping for paint but if some mod is gonna get all up in arms about a picture thread and close mine I'll just keep it to another forum.

The picture thread should be locked down more and have everyone just post like three-four pics of your car; like one interior, one exterior, one underhoot, one misc. That way people looking for differant exterior/interior setups can go through it easily and discussion can be nixed entirely. Then allow everyone to open a thread concerning their mods or changes to their car... why is everyone so against that anyways?

Very nice and funny BTW... I'm staying KA but it does open my eyes to the weight change.... hopefully someday I'll get the parts together and go LS1... ;)

EDIT: For ThatGuy: I can understand where you are coming from but no other forum that I have come across uses such a setup... allowing people to show off their new items allows for future searches to be easier and for easier commenting without cluttering stickies. It doesnt make sense to me but I'm not a mod, just a user so I'll withdraw from any further concerns over it. Thanks for the response.

My car after SR swap and with alot of crap removed from the front. I'd say it maybe sat 1/4 of an inch higher than before the swap. You guys do know that since the fron suspension rotates with the wheels when you turn the springs "lock" into the perches. If while it was up and you were doing all the work the springs got twisted that could add alot of ride height to it. With 80lbs of difference between the motors on 200(ish) lb/inch springs you'd have to of removed 400lbs of weight from the front for it to sit up that high. I'm pretty sure there is something wrong.

I did an entire buildup of my CA18 and all 20+ pictures got sent to the picture thread. I was upset :(

Anyway, I put a CA18 in mine (the friend S14DB is talking about) and my wheel gap is RIDICULOUS. Seriously, its like 5"+ now.
