so, over spring break I replaced my starter. Worked good for a while, then about 2 weeks later it failed again. Oh, it was a Bosch btw. So then I thought that it was just a bad starter. So I got a used starter w/ 60k on it (OEM). So I put it on and it worked. I starteed the car about 7 times till it failed again. So, I've come to the conclusion that there is something wrong in the electrical system and it's causing the starter to go bad.

However, my friend believes that it's just sheer coincidence and bad luck that this is happening.

My ? is this: What electrical tests can I do w/ my DVOM to diagnose the ROOT cause?

Thanks

first you have to check main fuse (is it s13? sometimes s13 wirings gets corroded) then check the starter relay. Do you have alarm system check it out too. What happens after the starter dies. does it stil turn? try to probe the starter signal wire (black w/ yellow) see if you get signal ask somebody to crank it. hope it helps you, keep 240 running!!

I checked the ALT S fuse. I assumed that ALT was for the alternator and the S is for starter, lol. That was the 7.5 amp fuse and that was good. I don't think there is a relay though. Maybe that was just for cars w/ alarms. thanks for the help!

OH, one more thing I forgot to mention. I did a voltage drop test between the battery and the starter and it was .5V while cranking and it spiked to 1V. Could this be the prob?

I'll have to go check the signal wire ASAP but I would like to give you guys an update. I found out that the starter isn't at fault. It is the starter circuit! I took the starters to pep boys and they told me they are good.

PS- If I get a signal, how many volts should it be?

ANd please, if you guys have any more suggestions then let me know.

oh, is tehre a relay on s14 autos? B/C I sure didn't see one on the car or in the FSM. thanks
