Just wondering if anyone has actually made their own red and clear taillights for fastbacks. If you have then whats the procedures and what type of material have you used for the clear part? Thanks in advance. Oh btw I don't want to buy the ones on ebay or clearcorners.
you're going to need to use some kind of scratch resistan plastic that you can form over curves, probably lexan, and prepare for it to look like complete nuclear garbage

Try taking the lense apart. There is a clear piece behind the yellow lense. Just take a couple screws off from the back of the light.

I just tried heating it up (the same method as the headlight lense) and I was unsuccessful. I think I left it in too long. I threw it in the oven and both the red and amber lense got worped. BlackSilEighty, have you done this before? If so what kind of lense did you replace the amber one with? Thanks. If I ever get it done I'll post pics.

Don't put plastic lenses in the oven  There should be just a couple little screws holding the lense to the tail light assembly. I've never done it before but I've heard of others doing it and they said it looked decent. You don't replace any lenses. There is a clear lense behind the amber lense. What I meant is that you take off the amber lense and there will be a clear lense behind it that you can just keep.

it needs to go into the oven, it's glued in. There are a few bolts that holds them in as well.
The clear thing behind the lens is sort of a weird looking peice, I don't know if anyone would want to keep that =b
How do I know, because I work with headlight and tail lights! Maybe this is the perfect time to show off my complete failer for the coupe!

Yah you have to heat it up because like 240meowth said theres like glue or cocking that holds the lenses in. 240meowth, have you ever tried what I'm trying to do since you work with taillights?

I know there's glue, but you don't have to heat it up to take it apart. You can slowly pry it apart. I did that with my corner lenses and turn signals. I had to pry them apart to clean out some algae and reseal them to keep the moisture out. I didn't reseal them with glue, I used weather cauking.

Okay, im working on a set of thse rite now. First off, the lense is actually glued on, even heating it up wont do any good since the clue is like super thick. The screws do hold it in but i dont htink it does much. I hammered the ornage off and below is clear plastic.
However, this plastic is sunken in and wil not look good at all if not covered.
I got the orange part out, now i gotta find some sort of plastic to cover up the hole. Some ppl said that they used the covering of light fixtures but it didnt work for me. WHen trying to cut them they plastic would crap and chip making it too hard to work with.
If i find anything new ill let u guys know.
BTW i dont have a fastback. Took them off a friends car to try this out.

Actually heating it up does help but you just have to find the right temp. and right amount of time to keep it in the oven or heat gun. When I threw it in the oven it worked the lense came off really easy. The only reason i worped the red part was cause I thought maybe thats what was holding the amber part in. Than I popped it off a little and put the light back in the over for a little longer. Thats what screwed me over. If I didn't do that, than the light would be good. Chlatboy, how did you get the lense off? My friend did the same light thing and used those flourescent light covers but doesn't want to tell me how he did it. Bastard. Well keep the information coming please. Theres gotta be someone out there that has completed this.

well i wont kwon about usign the oven since the lense is gone. I hammered the orange lents breaking it into tiny little pieces, then i scraped off the remained part of the lenses which is stuck in the really sticky glue.
Now i gota find a way to recover the part of teh lense i broke.

Is the lense flat enough to cut a new one out of plexiglass? The only problem i see is having too much curve. If you can get it cut good and smooth out the edges, maybe spray it with some frosted glass spray paint on the inside...
How about cutting it out with a dremel? Wouldn't it cause less stress on the plastic then a blade?

eh, $235? They're still expensive. I'd just keep the OE lights personally. For another $100-150 you could get some koukis if you price around.

How do you rationalize spending more money ON top of the ebay tails when he wanted to do a free mod?

I believe it was you who brought up spending money instead of a free "mod". Just how I see it is that you should work a little harder and save up for what you really want so you will be happy and not end up spending even more money later down the road.

There's a difference between $235, and $500 I don't believe that the red/clears are a great deal, but I think that kouki tails are fucking bullshit.
The difference between free, and the red/clears is less than HALF as much as the difference between the red/clears and koukis.

I apologize for things heating up. I don't mean for this to be a hate thread or something to stir up problems. I do have a set of kouki taillights on right now. I don't want to buy the ebay lights because I really don't want to spend anymore money on things I really don't need. The only reason why I wanted to do this light thing was to be different a little and the pride and joy of me saying I did this myself with the help of some people on here giving helpful information. I've seen these taillights on a car where I live and on a Drift Tengoku video and I personally don't think they look rice on a fastback. The only difference is that its not the crystal look. It still keeps its stock look. I also have the 180SX center garnish. I want to be able to keep that and use it with the taillights while having it match and look clean. If I buy the ebay ones, it wont flow with the 180SX center. Thanks for the helpful tips. Again I apologize for this thread causing people to argue over.

You can pick up used koukis for $300-$400. If you catch someone desperate to part out there car I've seen them go for under $300. If you really like something I think you can justify yourself to save up for what you really want. It's like a kid who sees something in the shop window and saves up all summer or something. Just work a little hard and get what you want.

And I'd rather not spend a whole lot of money buying ebay tail lights when I can make my own not as clear but what I'm going for, for a whole lot cheaper. I appreciate the comments but I want to know if anyone has actually did this. If so please post pics, how you did it, and what kind of plastic was used for the lense.

Kouki s14-does it have the kouki tail lights on or the red/clear lights? Also can you take pics or do you have some?
AllenRPS13-So far I've been told that the common way is to just break the amber lense and take the pieces out, clean the cauking, then reseal then put on the lense. I have yet to figure out what kind of lense or plastic to put yet.
Like I said above, if anyone has done this please share some info on what kind of plasitic is used. Thanks.

The Clearcorners are $325 without the LED conversion and IMO they look much better than the ebay ones..more oem looking. Based on all the comments made here about clearcorners products, I'd bet they are also considerably higher quality than the ebay ones as well.
All that said, I plan on getting myself a set of clearcorners tail lights someday.

Dont worry about the pics its all good. TheTimanator, thats exactly what I was going for. That OEM look. I'm pretty sure that clearcorners make their tail lights with high quility stuff. Why else would they sell tail lights just with clear blinkers for $325.

My guess is that (kinda like the coupe version) they look good on certain colors fastbacks with some kind of aero. The more agressive the better.
My concern with quality would be the housings leaking and then fogging up and whatnot.
