View Full Version : K&N vs. Injen intake

Just wondering what intake to get. I saw a lot of people have injen intakes and I don't remember anyone saying that they have a K&N intake. If K&N makes such a great filter, wouldn't it stand to reason that thier intakes would be the best too? BTW... I am more concerned with trapping dirt vs. injesting air.

Injen uses the K&N filter in their intake... So basicly they are the same thing. If you are interested in dirt stopping power, then i'd say go with Apexi Power Intake, although that thing costs alot.

Like he said...most major brands like AEM and INJEN use K&N air filters to start. You should be fine with any of them...they are all essentially the same...a tube with a cone filter at the end.

Actually, Injen used to use the K&N filter, but they make their own filter now. I have an Injen, with their filter, and it works great. It is a good deal, and it is "rechargeable" (cleanable) like the K&N filter. I would suggest the Injen.

you know.. I noticed that the AEM and Injen looked almost identical. According to Injens website they say they built their own, and everyone is copying their design.. I wonder if that's true? if so it would explain why AEM's looks like Injens...

Something interesting I noticed:

See the spike at about 5300 rpm? I get that in my car too.. Feels almost like vtec kicking in. Anyone have any ideas why that happens??

this may sound like BS and stupid...but this is how I see it.

think about the physics of the air streamline....at different velocities, the streamline will change right? well, notice it only happened with the CAE? with the CAE in, at 5300, the air streamline changed to a position that it would never be in without, and for some reason, at that point, it is most effecient.

make sense? I'm no engineer or anything, but if you look at jetstreams, and water lines, I think you'll see what I'm talking about.

I noticed the power spike lower with no CAE. Its like a small turbo around 4200rpm. Kinda cool!

i droped in a K&N stock replacement filter today, we'll see how it is tomorrow. Should I expect any big difference? I didn't get a CAI type or cone because I'll be turboing the KA in a while so I wouldn't need it.

AEM and Injen both use their own filters now.

I would think the K&N would function about as good as a injen, since it has a sealed heatshield for their intakes (not some junk that goes over the filter. K&N basically seals off the fiter from the rest of the engine, like a huge airbox.

Anyways I like the K&N because it uses plastic piping which tends to keep the air cooler.

You are ok with either of the 3 intakes though, I have the AEM in my car, and I works quite well.

if piping size is debatable, just remember the throttle body is only about 60.5mm (around there). so bigger piping isnt necessarily a plus.

Also, I dont think anyone copied anyone's design, AEM still doesnt powdercoat and TIG well (like it matters) their intake.

Well I guess that I am going to go with the Injen since I have seen a cold air pipe for it. I have not seen a CAE for the K&N.
