Well, stollen 240s are popping up everywhere. Its time for me to put in an alarm or something to deter theifs. What do you guys recommend? I will need something that works with my blitz turbo timer..

Any DEI alarm is good. Add kill switches for extra security. If thieves want your car badly, they will tow it. Nothing you can do about that, except to garage it.

Whats DEI? will it work with my turbo timer?

DEI is a manufacturer of top alarms such as Viper, Clifford, and Python to name a few. Can't go wrong with any of those.

search the tech talk forum, there was a thread created a while back (fall '05 maybe?) by a guy who had a really helpful website for installing alarms, kill switches, etc. a really good alarm isn't worth jack if it's poorly installed.

locked up the car and everything was fine no screwdrivers or broken windows.. i just wonder how they did it and how my timing was exactly when i see my car pull out if i was late another 5 mins the car would of been gone

you can use viper791xp, python881xp, hornet564t, or clifford rxs3.5 (I'm pretty sure I have the model numbers correct) install some piezo alarms along with kill switches and proximity sensors and you'll be good to go

Honestly, I think kill switches are a must...around here anyway. I live in an apartment, and people's alarms go off all the time. Most people don't pay attention to it at all.
To tell you the truth, I'm a light sleeper and I hear alarms go off all night, but nothing goes wrong in the end. What got me jumping out of my bed and running to the window though was the sound of glass breaking! It was just some people who were being stupid and broke some beer bottles.
Maybe, if you get an alarm that sounds like that, many would be more inclined to see what's going on :p Just a thought.
Anyway, get a kill switch. That and a garage are the best deterrents, but in the end, if someone really wants it, they'll get it :(
Good luck on whatever you get :)

+1 for Kill Switches. Also, a 2way paging alarm is cool. DEI ones have a pretty good range. Also, here is a website that reviews a few alarms, has a walkthrough on the install, and also shows you how to do kill switches:

Goodluck with it man.

viper 5000 is nice, very easy to install extra sensors and its top of the line. 791 is also popular because it has remote start but the remote start module is large , and harder to hide, also harder to install extra sensors, and i dont think you install more than 1 or 2.
right now i have a viper 5000 w/ backup siren/battery and tilt sensor (1 degree tilt, ie someone tries to jack the car up and steal the wheels) and it goes off. it also has fuel pump cut as soon as the alarm goes off
Bbridely- i believe you might be talking about cause for alarm. well heres the new website- http://www.vsracing.net/~suspended/nissan240SX.html
with alarm installed on my friends 240sx.
the backup siren/battery is going off because theres a wire somwhere disconnected, so hes gotta go back and get it checked out, but for the most part the install was well done. not that im an alarm guru or anything
driftracer- thats why i definately think 2 way paging is a must. cuz like u said, nobody pays attention to car alarms anymore. but when u find out ur car alarm goes off, u usually run to check it.
Any 2way alarm is fine. clifford rsx3.5, compustar 2wfm900 (i have this, love it), viper 791vx. every other alarm sucks. What's the point of an alarm if you dont know it's going off. It saved me a few times. two cent: I was at the bar (yard house at victoria garden mall) and my remote starts beeping. I walk out with a buddy and find a 5-8 kids (teens probably) all around my car. one kid was looking under it, another one looking through the windows. My friend and I were sitting across the way; waiting to see what they'll do. My buddy (Bruce) is black 265lb 6'4" and I (small asian kid) were going to beat some ass (he's a bouncer for a club, so he loves beating people up). thanks alarm.
just buy it on ebay and install it yourself. only thing you dont get is a warranty. but it's alot cheaper than 600 installed from a shop.

i work at a shop in van nuys called soundwaves in so cal if you guys need alarms installed. any questions can and will be answered wether its car audio or alarms im the installer at the shop with a 93 coupe. i can give you guys a 20% discount just come in mentioning this msg on the forum. we've been around for 4 yrs all the alarms we do are clean and gauranteed to work and the installations is gauranteed for life. basically most of them are right about the alarms there is no point in getting an alarm if its not a 2 way but all those kill switches well its good but not hard to bypass. but the way i install it. is i tape up the wires and loom them i also hide the brain anywhere to behind the radio, or glove cpt. a good install is what keeps the theif there longer. the towing part you just have to get the tilt sensor so when the moment they raise it up the alarm goes off and if you want no one to look inside your car then get a motion sensor its a invisible dome that will detect close movement and either send a warning or set the alarm off however you want to set it. and we also have the talking siren where it tells you to step away and shit like that.

I have the Viper 791xv. Honestly I wish I'd gone with the Compustar 2 way. The range on the 791xv is lousy and my remote was doa out of the box. I had to replace it and my installer told me that DEI 2 way remotes are constantly being returned to his shop for warranty service.
If you want a 2 way system get the compustar. The range is much better and the build quality seems a lot better too.
Above all else make sure and spend a few extra bucks on a propper stealth install. There's no sense in having an alarm if a thief can break in, snip a few exposed wires and drive away with your car.
you could just get one of those steering wheels that disconnect and when you leave the car hide it in your tunk or put it were you spare tire is.

The best alarm is a monkey with a bat inside your trunk. Trust me it can do anything. Give it a cell phone with quick dial hahaha it will calls you when the car is moving lol.

theres also the ravelco security system

That does nothing. I've seen tons of car stolen without steering wheel. theives use vice grip to grab the steering shaft. I use to do this at my dad's body shop on some cars. they do sell the anti theift caps that goes over the quick release hub.

the new boomarang 2 alarm systems.. with the tracking service looking interesting for those that spend large on their rides
- could be tracked in underground garages/contain boxes
- they garrenty if your car is stolen and not recoved in tack they will give full apprasial value.
I have been looking in to this alarm system for some time now.. looks like its worth getting

Kill switch its all up to you where you want it but be sure its mounted in a area that you have easy access to and that robbers can't find too easy. You go to be 10 steps ahead of the criminals. At the pep boys there is a security device thats like the club but only a tad bit better this bar locks on to the steering column and to the clutch pedal- Go figure if you cant get access to the clutch that car aint starting. For only 70 bucks thats not bad considering all the mods you got and the value of you're car you serriously want to protect it.

True Story:
I went to classic car meet 2 summers ago. Place was packed, but over the crowd I heard a girls voice scream "Help me"! I ran towards it to see what was going on, only to arrive at the source of the scream to a round of applause and a few laughs. "See, it works everytime. People ignore car alarms, but someone will also come running if they here a girl scream for help." That was the guys pitch, as he showed off the loud speaker mounted underneath his hood. He hits the panic button on the remote and "Help Me" comes out of that loud speaker. I felt slightly silly, until the next wave of would-be rescuers came running. It really did work, I'll be damned!
I'll stick with a two way set-up personally, but thought someone might enjoy this story.

the thing about those things is that steering wheels can be easily cut.

all alarms are all weak.
This is the only way to deter thieves. Even tow trucks.
http://www.tirelock.com/product.php?cid=2
Get two of those. One in front one in back and I don't see how anyone can take your car including towtrucks.. unless they drag it up a flat bed.
I'd rather buy one of these than some 400 dollar alarm system. Looks ugly but who would steal something that looks like a police officer put on?
This is the next big thing!!!!

i have some questions...soo...i had to bring this back up...
Does the Locking Foot Bar for the Brake or Clutch Pedal actually work???
Whats the few brands out their that have good reputation for their alarm systems in cars????
^I'm pretty sure a professional theif can bypass anything. Have you ever seen the repo shows on tv? If they want it they can get it. They can always tow away your car. The good brands would be anything by DEI they make the Viper, Hornet, etc. alarms.

REPO ppl have a more determined mind too it...its like they HAVE to repo it.
When ordinary thieves just choose what they want.
yea I hear lots about DEI...so doesnt matter if its Viper, Hornet, or the other names they do...its all the same right, just that the names are different??

this is one of my idea, my anti-thieft & annoy system. basically, you install it on your framerails or that little hump at the rear or a special rear tie bar/rear subframe latch. the model on the pic is for the hump on the rearend. also the base with spikes is suppose to be longer.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m96/mangolian_IAN/antithiefannoysystem.jpg
i could also make it so its flatbed unfriendly.
my other quick idea is... if you still have the yellow nissan wheel chocks or similar to it. get a larger thick chain you can get. then strap the chain thru the wheel chocks and around the wheels tight as possible. then with a heavy duty lock, lock it behind the wheels. so, is much more annoying to reach for it.
just remember to buy some locking lugnuts. that should slow em down and annoy them.
btw that screaming girl for help alarm is great idea too.
