hi all, i just picked up my sr a few days ago, when i picked the motor up the shop guys told me a few things i could do while the motor was out of the engine bay. one was replacing the head gasket, im looking at replacing the stocker with a aftermarket metal one like a apexi or greddy one... which brings me to my question. What would be a good thickness to go with? i found a 1.8mm one for a really decent price that i was thinking of picking up, but i wasnt sure if that would be a good size to go with. as my plans for the car i dont plan on making a HUGE amount of hp at this time, but i do plan on upgrading the turbo and things like that down the road! any help u guys could offer would be greatly appreciated! thx alot!

I just got Cometic metal head gasket and they looks great and you can't really beat the price! Just go with standard size. You should get ARP head studs too while changing the metal head gasket. This site so far have the best deal. Just go with that setup and you will be good to go.

1.8mm is too much for just a stock block. go with a 1.1mm
stock hg is 0.80mm IIRC.

re-deck your head for metal head gaskets..I blew mine in 2 days because it wasnt decked right. decking=resurfacing. it levels out the head just in case its been warped. its best to deck the block as well, just in case..but most people dont need to deck the block.

The machinist must use the circular resurfacing machine..i forget what its called, but if you use the belt procedure like i did (vertical surfacing) you WILL blow your head gasket. and thats a bad thing.
